Italian Design

Not likely: when the booted country wanted cool they imported the works of Britain. Norton Villiers Triumph. As well as AJS. Bepi Koelliker was the roman anglophile in question bringing all vehicular things blighty to Rome.

Hadrian would be shocked!

  1. That bike at the rear left being ‘tested’ by the lady is a Triumph Trophy Enduro 650 made exclusively for the Italian market by Triumph.

A short production run ensured rarity today. The tank was fiberglass and the unique 2 into 1 ended in a silencer that gave more than a passing nod to the BSA Rocket 3 exhaust end; but with just two little exit tubes instead of the three on the BSA. The rear light/number plate mounting was also a pukka folded rubber ‘mud flap’ type enduro item with a tiny off-road rear light rather than the usual vulnerable road-biased item on a chrome base. The only reason I know this is because I have just found one in Italy and had to do some digging to find out what I was looking at. Very few pictures and even fewer examples exist of it today – unless someone else knows otherwise…?
