The Future Was Here | The imaginative illustrations of Syd Mead spoke of a streamlined and slick world of cool architecture and knife-sharp cars. This Honda 3000 has hints of Kaneda’s bike from ’89 Manga animation Akira. Mead developed the feel of dystopian Blade Runner and the computer integration of Tron. Syd passed away yesterday at the age of 86.
Mambo Rock
Forty Five RPM | classic instrumental hit from 1958 with very memorable lyrics: “Tequila” x3. Awesome cover photo of the band in matching red suits over white tees on Triumph motorcycles.
Coop Soop
Hot Rodder July 1966 | a ‘toon clipping from a vintage magazine unearthed in Minnesota. If you try and drop a Chevy small block V-8 into a Mini Cooper you’d better think about the pilots cockpit.
Track Star
Speed Thrills | More of former cyclist Victoria Pendleton as she promotes vintage two wheeled racing. This old Triumph is fettled for high velocity with those narrow vertical bars.
Ain’t no leftover turkey here…
Happy Boxing Day | a crated Triumph straight from the factory must be fun to open.
Donner und Blitzen
St Nick | hope you have all been good a won’t receive a lump of coal in your stocking. Enjoy the holiday season and the time you spend with your family and friends.
Curves Ahead
Continuing Fine Weather | with another atypically warm day in late December I was able to visit some job sites on the Tiger. I could zoom up and down Forest Way Drive along the Skokie Lagoons.
Low Sun
Solstice Shadows | unseasonably warm temperatures allowed for a ride today. Low fifties and sunny skies as well as quiet roads made for a nice outing. With the handgrip warmers and an electric vest I was toasty. Coffee stop in Lake Forest IL.
The Force is with you
Skywalker | The saga is complete. I finally saw Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. A good sci-fi tale with plenty of action and Star Wars fun. The desert chase with stormtroopers haring over the sand on tracked Treadspeeders was thrilling. The pillion trooper also sports a jet pack.
Two Wheels Good
Ride On | One-time Olympian and current jockey Victoria Pendleton swaps her pedal power and horse for a Triumph Speed Triple. She’s been taking further adventure riding training to enable her to join the club of adventure motorcycle escapades.
Halcyon Days
Oceanic Horizon | as we bottom out at the Winter Solstice we can at least dream days with an azure ocean to your side as you zoom along a coastal highway.
Sixteen Plus
Bradley | Celebrating his 56th birthday today here’s Mr Pitt looking cool on a GQ magazine shoot. Desert sled provides a purposeful SoCal patina’d prop.
Creativity is Intelligence having fun
LEGO | someone knows their studded block assembly with this model of an early 70’s Triumph Bonneville. Plenty of tricky parts to get the engine looking somewhat realistic. Growing up LEGO was my favorite building toy.
Annie get your gun
Would I lie to you? While I was cruising some 80’s music videos this evening I happened upon this snippet in the opening sequence of a Eurythmics hit from 1985. Her unruly boyfriend has a Kawasaki GPZ 900. Best color scheme too! That’s a great bike!
The Sons of the Desert
Stan and Ollie | A comedy duo from the golden age of Hollywood who got up to many japes and shenanigans. Their comedy was thoughtful idiocy and usually a ‘fine mess’ was ‘gotten into’.
