Tri tri try

Swim Bike Tun

– an early Sunday saw me in Grant Park at 5am to meet with the others in the motorcycle crew for this year’s Triathlon. Again, I ferried Oli the photographer around the course to allow him to capture the athletes. Mostly loops up Lake Shore Drive, but also rode along the busway, a secretive road between the Illinois Center and McCormick, and some sections of the south lakefront trail to see the runners. Nice team and splendid weather.

A tree grows…

.. in West Loop.

I needed to park the Tiger on the street today. The garage was closed off due to Greek-fest. The green cat-bike looked cool in front of the vintage brickwork and under a dappled tree canopy.

Michigan Avenue

John Hancock looms…

… over The Magnificent Mile. Nice detour along this prominent street from the River north to the Lake.

Country Road

Rural Retreat

– perfect weather allowed us to explore a few more back roads through the agricultural setting of Lake County. This gravel lane in particular was especially inviting. Shoulder height corn field to port and fallow arable to starboard. White farm building clusters ahead.

Remake

The Blob

– afternoon TV was airing this 1988 revisit of a classic ‘58 Steve McQueen horror. Kevin Dillon is the high school teen protagonist who tears around the town on his vintage Triumph.

Solidarity Drive

View from the Planetarium

– I took a slight detour on my way home for a lakefront view back to the City. Hot here – in the nineties. The Navy jets have been practicing over the skyline today.

Grate Roads

Crossing the River

– many of the City’s bridges have open metal decks. It makes the tires a little squirrelly, and you can see the water below. But they’re used effectively for the many bascule bridges through Chicago.

Nothing beats…

..knobbly tires on a Tiger.

– when my current set of original tires need changing I’m going for boots with more bite.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Street Comet

– old pic from a bygone era. Vincent owner sits proudly with a lucky young lad on the corner of Brevitt Road and Wanderers Avenue in the Midland city of Wolverhampton. The penny loafers with trousers tucked into the socks are quite a look. Probably just going to pop down to get some milk for the tea…

Green DeLuxe

Alive & Kickin’!

– more rugged undertakings, as seems to have been the theme this week, with a purposeful alleyway machine. The whiff of green contrasts pleasantly with the gritty red brick wall behind.
