– a cool hundred mikes around Lake County with a brief sojourn into Wisconsin. I gotta say it but the bike is just a pleasure to ride.

– “It’s the ride of life the journey from here to there living and loving every moment like we have none to spare.” Jess “Chief” Brynjulson
We’re getting back to some degree of normalcy here. I finally got to take the Tiger for a spin. Chilly weather under clear blue skies called for the the full heated gear and head to toe GoreTex outfit. Kept fairly cosy in the 39°F air temperatures. I ventured along a few of the usual gravelly backroads for a quiet section of travel. A few trail side ponds were skinned with a thin sheet of ice. Oak trees grab skyward with their sculptural skeletal form.
– nice afternoon ride up through Lake County. Low stretched shadows across the road ahead. Leaf offering hints of autumn.
– I had to go and visit a new project site today. So I took the Tiger for a spin up Sheridan Road along the Lake. Turning off a small lane took me through a quiet corner of the northern suburbs in true rustic fashion. The overcast sky and splash of rain only enhanced the turning colors.
– splendid outing this afternoon with perfect weather. What’s not to like about a quiet smooth road through trees with a blue sky above. Temperatures in the sixties. Champion!
– took a quick spin up the coast. The temperatures were ideal and a fresh breeze off the lake kept proceedings comfortable. The water had a beautiful turquoise hue against the clear blue sky.
Under the Hawthorn
– a quick pit stop in a Forest Preserve. The woodland had been cleared of its understory so good filtered views through the dappled shade from the canopy was enjoyed.
– a good place to view the world from when scooting around the lanes, roads and highways.
– temperatures in the 70’s and a light breeze off the Lake gave us a splendid ride through Lake County. A couple of unexplored roads that led back to bucolic farm scenes gave us a delightful few miles of riding.
It’s always so special when you find these compositions through leafy frames to elegant farmsteads.
– with rising May temperatures a loop around north east Illinois was on the cards. A stop by Fox River for a well earned coffee; being the first time since the start of the pandemic on our weekend rides. Taking back roads along the Illinois Wisconsin state line we rode to the Lake and back down Sheridan Road with a quick stop at the Durand Art Institute in Lake Forest.
– I managed to take a shot of Dean zooming along Melvin Amstutz Highway near Waukegan.
– with November temperatures in the upper sixties a smashing couple of hundred mile loop was undertaken over in DuKalb and McHenry counties. Rolling farmland along old Midwestern routes such as “Plank Road” and “”Lincoln Highway”. Red barns is various degrees of decrepitude sprinkled the rural scene. Oh, and Trump lost reelection- all in all a pretty pretty pretty good day.
– standing proudly on the east bank of the Fox River near Geneva IL a mid Nineteenth Century Dutch mill offers an historic backdrop to my early morning ride along the Tri-City region between Elgin and Aurora. The all wood structure is fully functional driven from its fabric covered sails. This pre-industrial age technology was a stark contrast to the particle accelerator at nearby Fermilab with its circular Tevatron which runs its circular path around a prairie grassland.
Leadville | The prime destination last weekend was the old mining town of Galena. Historical seat of Joe Daviess Country and home of Ulysses S Grant. In the early C19th it rivaled Chicago in population and was the busiest steamboat hub north of St Louis.
