– a perfect place for the elusive alpine feline bike. Wide glacial alluvial plains between craggy snow class spires. What a journey that would be.

Sid James (1913-1976) – hairdresser from Johannesburg, though he also claimed a boxer, diamond cutter and dance tutor, became one of the most recognized comedy actors in the UK with the double-entendred Carry-On film. Starring in 19 of them his dirty laugh became synonymous with seaside postcard humour. To celebrate his birthday I found this image of on a Honda Monkey CT-70 on Brighton Pier.

– period snap of a yellow shirted teen with his new, at the time, Triumph T20 Tiger Cub.

Speeder Bike – Moon of Endor
– the first time I saw this chase scene in the movie theater back in ‘83 I was blown away. You were flung through the forest at breakneck speed as if you were aboard with Luke & Leia.

Morning Dust
– tearing off into the high desert trail. There’s nothing like riding under the fresh early morning light. Especially if the destination is some wilderness backwater.

– at a fill-up just north of Milwaukee I spotted a pup wandering around the gas station. Looking for the owner I spied a sign on Mart’s window. “I live here. My name is Diesel” when getting a quick coffee I asked the attendant how old the old boy was. “Quite old” came the reply. “And he’s the second Diesel!”

WI Route 42
– quality light from the west as the sun sank over the Dairyland. The road ahead always beckons.

– an overnight trip to the northern parts of Door County was undertaken. Cool but nice clear light on the way up last evening with a deep blue lake on the right and the occasional sunset illuminated barn. Camped on the beach and returned back along the Green Bay side of the peninsula. A nice 560 mile leg stretch.

– cool old advertising poster for Triumph. The chap with the cigarette is envious of the motorcycle owner.

– Pink Floyd’s legendary album reached number 1 on this day in 1973 .

One of the greats who passed away yesterday. Winning numerous races in his long career he was considered one of the greatest all-rounders. A two-time AMA Grand National Champion (1963 and ’71) Mann was the first person to win all five disciplines: road racing, short track, TT, quarter-mile and mile flat track. The photo is of him at a blistering pace aboard a BSA Rocket 3. Another photo below shows the triple line up at the Daytona 200 in ‘71 with Don Emde and Mike Hailwood to his far right and immediate right respectively. Mann to first place in that historic race.

Springfield Missouri
– odd sightings along The Mother Road. An old double decker London bus. It was parked in a food truck court and, if open, would have served Cornish Pasties… shame!

– we’re now traveling through Missouri along the old cross country driving road. Occasionally an old American car peeps out from some weeds.

Eureka Springs AR
– an adventurous sort tootling along the historic Main Street of a town that drew late 19th Century Americans to try the healing waters. Now it has fudge shops, t-shirt stores, trinket emporia, among other tourist attractions. Today also had the cacophony of open-piped Harley riders thundering up and down the traffic jammed narrow streets.
