Retro

What was old is new – this would be a corker of a project. Take a newer chassis with eyesmarting brakes, supple suspension and other choice bits; drop in a tuned Triumph twin then twist ‘n’ go! Double takers all around. Your face would hurt from grinning!

DIY Triumph

Hardware Store – over in Three Oaks MI we spied a mint condition ’79 Bonnie in the window of a proper US ironmongery. “A bag of 6 penny nails, a quart of royal blue gloss enamel and a box of 100 watt bulbs please!”

Rouge Rebel

Red Rogue – Mango Tango is the color of this tank. Nice compliment to the blacked out bobber bike. Classic lines of a hardtail in a clean execution.

Mr Universe

Pumping Iron – each of these were forces to be reckoned with in their day. From the ’71 BSA Rocket Three which briefly had its moment in the spotlight before Honda’s CB750 turned up on the scene. Honda’s 450 Black Bomber heralded reliability in mechanics and electrics. The scaremongering H2 Mach IV 750 from Kawasaki to quote a contemporary Moto journalist  “scarily fast, good-looking, no holds barred motorcycle”.

Finally the grandsire of all modern superbikes Kawasaki’s Kz900. The example here was sublime in finish, a looked like its engine was straining at the seams for a good thrash along the highway. It was also for sale…

Sit on it!

Heeey! When you want to play it cool nobody does it better than The Fonz (Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli) played by Henry Winkler. His bobbed Triumph TR5 became as iconic as his hair-do and thumbs.

A Right Pair

’69 & ’72 – the two Bonnie’s looked good at The Lake Cafe in Antioch yesterday. For a nearly combined age of a hundred years they’re holding their own on the highways.

John Pemberton’s Beverage

It’s the Real Thing! Not quite a Hilltop of anticipated world peace, or a Pacific sunrise revelation by Don Draper, but smashing weather conditions for a cracking ride deserved an ice cold Coke. Proper stuff with real sugar, glass bottle, straw… Perfect!

“If you want to be a bird”

MAD Grinning imp Alfred E. Neuman takes to the streets on his choppered trike whilst the Harley riding gang of Captain America, Billy, and Jim Bronson rumble on in cool style… Born to be Wild.

Rattus norvegicus

Brown Rat – the proud owner sits lazily by his conglomeration of odd and ends that create a unique truck and bike. Every item that added curious character was a found object. From the snap-on wrench door handle to repurposed tire tread rear fender. A 650 twin Yamaha was the donor Moto under its patina’d skin. #Motoblot #Ratbike

Toy Motorcycle

Britains – nice period catalogue spread from the early seventies. I just need the pair on the Lambretta scooter for my collection.

Of Wine & Cheese

“Cracking toast Gromit!” As part of the frenzied inventor with his dedicated sidekick hound, and as one of the youthful hearted pensioners in a long running sitcom, Peter Sallis became a household name as a cheese and cracker gastronome and Holmfirth scallywag respectively. Sadly he passed away today at the grand age of 96. His voice and demeanor were calm and reassuring and he seemed to fit both characters perfectly.

“Did I lock the door?”

Here’s one I made earlier

Get Down Shep! – Part of my youth was a biweekly watching of the children’s BBC show Blue Peter. Where the presenters got up to all sorts of studio or outdoors hi-jinx. One of the most popular was John Noakes who was on the show for a record 12 years. He Was never without his sidekick , border collie, Shep. Sadly John passed away yesterday at the age of 83. Here’s screenshots of his 1980’s show Go with Noakes where he tried his hand at trials riding across the grassy moors of the Isle of Man.

Mostly Harmless

Towel Day – like the typical journey on a motorcycle; roving intergalactic travel, or even just getting through day to day life, the trip can meander quite wanderingly with little regard to the one traveling. Sometimes you just need to pack your towel, possess the all knowledgeable Hitchhiker ‘s Guide to the Galaxy, and perhaps slip a Babelfish in your ear, and head out into the wide yonder. You never know where it might take you.. indeed you may be pleasantly surprised! Towel Day is celebrated on 25th May, two weeks after the passing of Douglas Adams in 2001.
