– old forest service trucks were lined up at the Russell Road Military Museum under the Spring sun; their paint was faded and cracked, instrumentation spare and efficient.

– glorious day for a ride. the roads were fairly quiet; the views into the surrounding Chicagoland countryside; cloudless blue sky; Tiger purring like a content kitty. Perfect!

Waiting for a warm-up
– whilst putting the snow blower back into the garage the Triumph was giving me eyes. The temperatures touched 50 today and much of the snow mounds continued to melt away. Should be back on the roads soon!

– tucked in a corner behind a neighboring apartment building stands this older GS500 under a blanket of snow. I nearly bought one of these in London back in the nineties but ended up with the Kawasaki GPZ500.

Late November before the forecast snow flies and I take the Kit out for a speedy 50 miler. the 2 mile stretch past this Lake Bluff destination just before you reach the Great Lakes Naval Station is a nice run past open fields and wooded copses.

– one more thing I like about the Tiger is its front view. Making sure you are visible to the other road users is imperative.

– a nice autumnal spin along Sheridan Road through the Northshore suburbs which were splendid under the blue October sky. Temperatures were on the chilly side but my heated vest and grips kept this rider toasty.

– Bright skies over Waukegan Harbor today. Cool Fall weather has arrived with a brisk breeze off the water sends the 50* temperature into the forties.

– a luminous early evening ride with a fresh autumnal atmosphere. Setting orb of the sun drops behind the fading foliage. The Tiger carried me effortlessly into the dusk.

– as the days shorten the weather maintains an optimum balance of sun and temperatures. In my mind this is perfect conditions. I had a site meeting so took the Tiger out for a prowl to enjoy the day.

– Ideal weather gave an opportunity for a short circuit along an unridden Route. West along Oakton to meet the gently meandering north west road from Mount Prospect through the Barrington’s towards the Fox Valley. Passing through some wooded swathes of Forest Preserves with Fall bloomed clearings between deeply shaded boughs. A cut back along County Line Road through Wauconda and a quick detour to the Gentleman Farm at Lakewood Forest Preserve. Then a spin back towards the Lake along 176 to Lake Bluff.

(I didn’t take any photos today. These were downloaded from Google.)

– a splendid spin out on the Tiger today under perfect conditions. Being a Holiday the roads were fairly clear and an early autumnal feel to the air. Color just about to turn with the dusty scent of vegetation heading into dormancy wafting across the highways.

– half way around yesterday’s circle tour was a shady spot under some Oaken woodland. Cool verdant breeze gives a promise of colorful Fall rides ahead.

– late summer weather is spot-on today. So a new loop added to the local repertoire. Out along Ogden Ave to Oswego then north along art 25 which follows the Fox River through the historic towns of Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St Charles, Elgin and Algonquin. Finally turning for home back down the leafy swoops of Gilmer Road from McHenry. This building is a hint of the various levels of decrepit industry that supported the River corridor in the past.

– there are many places along the 18.5 miles of Lakefront to stop and enjoy a view across to the changeable waters of Lake Michigan. This particular day it was flat with a hint of turquoise.
