von Dutch style! My intrepid roving reporter Dean Rennie was in LeClaire IA at the American Pickers store. Owner Mike Wolfe and TV partner Frank Fritz were on the hunt for a rare motorcycle. A cruiser framed item with a Volkswagen flat four engine shoehorned in. They discovered it under a dusty tarp in a barn. The VW badge remarking its provenance. Here a photo of the bike displayed at their location just north of the Quad Cities.

I like the sign hung in the window… Need one for my workshop…

Interesting graphic: sometimes you need to change the angle of your viewpoint. I like the technicality as well of the realism of reflected surfaces of this Triumph Oil-in-Frame Bonneville. I hope I don’t see my moto at this angle with me aboard. As they’d say: “goin’ arse o’er tit”.

70’s glam rock band Mud had a number 1 hit with Tiger Feet. Here’s period advertising. With dancing Cubs probably bopping to that very tune.
I really love your tiger feet
I really love your tiger feet
Your tiger feet
Your tiger feet
Your tiger feet
Well alright.

Used by dealers in days past to promote upcoming shop events. Triumph-Day to mark on your calendar.
“Yesterday I was expecting Tomorrow, but all I got was Today”.
Well, I would hope today was a T-Day!

Triumph had the big papa Tiger T110 650cc desert king, the scooter Tigress, and the wee Cub. The fifties sure had a lit of fun on two wheels.

What a fun banner sign to post in a cold winter day. But even better: make your second moto’cycle a car! But I do like health and savings promoted along with the all important fun.

An older poster for dealerships to advertise the qualities of the wee Cub. As it says “light, lively, better to handle”.
Times were simpler back then…

A suitably sized, thorned and fire-breathing pillion makes a great companion when Norton rode, highway bound. Kids storybook of a moto girl enjoying the open road. A perfect book to teach kids it’s okay to Be Yourself;no matter what that may entail. Roald Dahl would have been proud!

Keeping in the theme of the weekend, well sort of, here’s a classic pulp fiction book cover. Using master of movie macabre Boris Karloff as promotion these fantasy thrillers jacket art is needed to fulfill the promise of the writings. Cliches aside!
But to run from a fire breathing flying behemoth wearing a haz-mat suit, shooting a laser weapon over your shoulder whilst haring away on a 200cc Triumph Cub…. Good Luck!

Angry Toy: Black brick biker (*assembly required).
I learned a lit about how things are built using the basic blocks of LEGO. These days there are countless mouldings to allow anything to be made. Early Technic sets started the idea of gears, axles, riveted beams and the like.

An early motorbike kit had the option of building a combination or chopper, both with working piston engine and chain drive.

I loved the assembly drawings.

Keeping on this Gremlin theme here’s another informational graphic. It taken a mere hairline crack in a ships hull to let in water allowing it to rust out and leak or fracture. “Keep the Navy Afloat”.
Same with motorcycle frames- all joints need to be solid and secure. Don’t let those little bugger’s in!

During world war 2 war machine production was ramped up to such a huge degree even today I can’t believe how they did it. To keep the home front workers productive a series of posters was prepared to hang in the factories promoting good work practices. Our little friend the gremlin was used to good effect ensuring safe practices on the factory floor.

High protection is essential when working with the heavy machinery producing guns, aircraft & ships.

Clean work environment is essential too. Classic British motorcycle owners should know this.
Watch your back mate don’t get laid up idle.

We all know it was the swingin’ sixties but a tiger on a swing looks a bit more gibbon like rather than hip…

Back in the fifties and sixties this was the case! The agile powerful motos from the motherland came and conquered. On road, track and trail they chewed ’em up and spat ’em out in the dust behind. What tea party? Get the kettle on!

On this day in 1969 the Fab Four walked out of one of their final recording sessions together at the eponymous studio on Abbey Road and strolled across a zebra crossing into history. A great album full of depth in their music – however separate strengths were evolving to maturity.

Each in synchronized stride, with Paul out of step with a bare right foot forward… It is arguably one if the most recognized album covers in history…. The music ain’t that bad either. The crisp notes of Harrison’s plucking opening side two are truly sublime.
