Annual Goals

NYR – New Year’s Resolutions: the time of year when you need to take stock and wistfully ponder on what the heck you got up to and wonder what bedevilment you can get up to in the ensuing year. Here’s mine: project; new bike; travel; go places with my lass.

List

Winter Projects – as the warm weather recedes into a distant memory now is the time to figure out the tasks to undertake on the bikes. Still some sorting of the Cub; cables, wiring, a timing cover seal, a little more carb fettling. The the Bonnie is getting a new front sprocket; two teeth up for a little more top speed, then fresh clutch plates for bite… some oil line work…. it never ends keeping these running!

Bantamweight

Ickle Motosickle – Small Heath cuteness. One seven five cee cee’s. Everything was in miniature on it, the speedo was like a wristwatch. It would make a good city runabout for one of smaller stature. My six five would be too comic. The two-stroke needs pre-mix using the tank cap instructions. There are rumors of close to half a million of these built and distributed to all corners of the globe. This is a nifty survivor.

One-Two

A Right Pair – here are the two bikes in drive side profile. A little tweaking of fuel lines. Had the Cub in tight figure eights around the garage. Tomorrow is forecast as perfect autumnal weather. The Bonnie will be taken out.

On another note the Chicago Cubs just got through to the World Series.

LED

Light Emitting Diode – swapped out my incandescent bulbs for low wattage high output LEDs today. Nice and bright with less draw off the battery; so now I can put a brighter halogen main beam in.

Speedo

Naught to Sixty – half of a decent Lzbor Day weekend ride earlier today. However the electrical gremlins woke up 40 mile out. Cut short Lake Geneva destination and sauntered back without lights. Nothing a strip of black tape can’t fix…

Spanner or Wrench

My buddy Dean saw this sales card in a Sears store where the automotive tools were. Craftsman ratchet and spark plug socket being put to good use on a bobber Triumph. The image is used in a number of advertising guises.

Rough Rider

Patina is Everything – I’d keep the surface finished and merely wipe them all down with an oily rag. Make sure there’s compression and the brakes work and shocks give a supple ride then this sled would be a fun beast to pound a dusty lane on.

Road Worthy – So, after checking carburetor slides are moving in synchronicity a timing light can flash to ensure ignition sparks fire correctly. The bike should sound like a Swiss Watch. Fill ‘er up and get out on the road youth!

Two Thou in, Fout Thou out – cold engine for valve adjustments on the tappets. I listen for a barely audible tic-tac from the rockers. Also respirator filters to be clean. Carburetor tomorrow folks!

Hidden Horsepower 1 of 6

On Vacation this week- here’s a magazine article (which will be posted as installments) about wringing a few more ponies out of a seventies Triumph twin. Good Luck!
