A motorbike riding couple zoom past clouds of helium filled heart-shaped balloons. It’s a street scene in Karachi Pakistan and similar notions of love are displayed around The World.
Wot! No Bike?
Artist, bassist, motorcyclist. Punk. Paul Simonon is the greasy biker, musician painter with a new exhibit of his leather ‘n’ cigarette imagery. On show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts ICA in London.
The Clash set the music scene on fire with such greats as London Calling and Rock the Casbah. He was the Fender Precision Bass wielding rocker on the cover of the bands third album. Hailed as the greatest music photograph of all time taken by Bennie Smith at The Palladium in New York.
A leaf ripped from a book….
Speed Hound
Love this painting. Looks like our Geordie the greyhound racing along on a road going dirt bike. Though in ‘his day’ he didn’t need wheels; his legs powered him up to 35 to 40 mph around the Dairyland track at Kenosha Wisconsin between 2005 and 2008. He was a Champion… And to us still is.
Here he is in fine form fresh off his track career.
His race number is 20721 63E. Race name Broadview Tyler.

At Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale CA there is a museum atop its central hill. Surrounded by mortuary and gardens of remembrance it seems a peculiar location for a motorcycle show. But a great small display of about a dozen vintage motorcycles and artwork was a perfect destination on one of our days around Los Angeles. The flame orange Flying Merkel was one such noted bike.
This gentlemanly Grey ‘teen Harley Davidson in immaculate condition was illuminated like a fine sculpture. Elsewhere another beautiful HD sat bejeweled under some fine moto-art.
The sun shone through a magnificent display of stained glass upon a broadly fair’d Gilera. Red and blue for speed.
Tank art also highlighted the historical names of Indian.
As well as the custom line work in glistening paint of the sixties bike scene: tangerine dream indeed.
One of my favorites was an unassuming Guzzi with very special markings. von Dutch pinstriping with aged patina and an etched dragon curling around the ‘bacon-slicer’ flywheel.
Better’n any gallery!
Dragon is my co-pilot
..here there be Dragons.
Keeping in the theme of the weekend, well sort of, here’s a classic pulp fiction book cover. Using master of movie macabre Boris Karloff as promotion these fantasy thrillers jacket art is needed to fulfill the promise of the writings. Cliches aside!
But to run from a fire breathing flying behemoth wearing a haz-mat suit, shooting a laser weapon over your shoulder whilst haring away on a 200cc Triumph Cub…. Good Luck!
Día De Los Muertos
A Skeleton Crew”or “tighten those loose bolts!”
Hallowe’en and the dead shall rise… Well this chopped, hacked and generally abused moto might need more than Dr Frankenstein’s theatrical efforts to awaken with a hearty rort. Even though it says Triumph on the coffin tank the engine looks like a Yamaha… Scary!
Other Frankenbikes:
Boris Karloff styled GI Joe figure with combination.
A dude and his bride highway bound on a pumpkin colored chopper. What torque do you need to tighten neck bolts?
Tea and biscuit Boris?
