Here Comes the Sun

Another Geordie (not a Tynesider but a George!); this time George Harrison. Growing up in Liverpool he would go to the local races, here seen atop a Triumph at the Aintree Racetrack in 1955. So he was 12 at the time, just before he discovered the guitar and joining ‘The Quarrymen’…

This may even have been the poster for this particular race meet, Saturday April 30th being in 1955. Beautiful clean graphics with golden text in mid-century font on black background.

It seems ’55 was an important year for Aintree, it was here later that year Stirling Moss won his first Grand Prix driving the powerful Mercedes Benz W196 pipping ‘El Maestro’ Juan Manuel Fangio into 2nd. Exciting Stuff! I’ll bet George Harrison was there too!

Silver Dream Racer

David Essex, rocker from the 70’s takes on the biker persona with this 1980 model 750cc Triumph. Black leather coat and tan cowboy boots date his appearance perfectly. His other moto links are a role in the original Evita musical as Che Guevara.  He also starred in a low budget British movie about a motorcycle racer “Silver Dream Racer”.

Liquor Deli & Wine

The Kills

Alison Mosshart aka ‘VV’ of the alternate band The Kills utilized the cool factor of a hefty Triumph in this great B&W image.

“Take That! Steve McQueen!”

A dusty desert scene, knobbly shod Tiger and an air of coolness. Here’s that Brit-pop idol ’emulating’  McQueen. A determined face whilst manhandling an airborne, speeding bike would have achieved a better look.

Pretty in P!nk

The singer Pink loves her Triumph Bonneville; seen frequently haring around the LA boulevards duckin & diving from paparazzi. Alecia Beth Moore, as she is also known as, takes the biker look somewhat seriously; engineer boots, open-face with nannini goggles; though a nice leather jacket and at least a pair of gloves is recommended!

Visions of Johanna

Blonde on Blonde: slap on a vinyl LP of one of Dylans masterpiece poem/songs and lay back and soak in the words, rasping voice and the images evoked in what some regard as his masterpiece.

“…and these visions of Johanna are now all that remain.”
