Breath Easy

Whit a Gas! – Dusty trail across a rocky Mediterranean isle. An Indian Sikh despatch rider putting on his gas mask during a 50-mile motorcycle trial in Cyprus, 3 March 1942. A well worn BSA M20. The

Convergence

Vanishing Point – as the parallel lines of the road converge ahead, the shadow of trees above open up to an advancing bright spot in the country lane. The enclosing headlight nacelle of a Triumph Cubs controls pulls you along.

Spring Spin

Behind the Bars – perfect April weather today. A warm breeze wafted across northern Illinois With the engine purring like a cat. Forsythia blooming sunshine yellow and redbud dappled in complementary purple. Brushed against the Wisconsin State Line along Russell Road and swung back down along the Lake.

B&W Dude

Straddled Strider – Proud owner and his cafe’d Triumph. Nice monochrome portrait perfect narrow depth of field and crisp focusing of subject. It looks like my bike, with big tank, however the twin disc forks and bum-stop seat are added extras.

Friday Cool

The Dudley Dude – a factory fresh Triumph TR6 being taken for a cruise around the Streets of London. To mark Steve McQueens Birthday here he is in his element looking cool: desert boots, jeans and Triumph tee-shirt. Over the Top

Hump Day – well, this is one way to overcome midweek. Take a vintage Montessori Cota 349 trials and loup over the roof of a classic Volkswagen Beetle. The Pfederstall, or horse stable, restaurant Is a suitable backdrop of motorcyclists rendezvous for such antics.

2-2-2

Trainspotting – a bunch of friends in the mid sixties enjoy each other’s company whilst chasing steam around the country. Based in Weymouth they were present at the waning of coal powered transport. Left to right: Norman Gillespie, Denis Turner and Keith Robertson. The large bottles of Guinness must be some story… the photo us Denis’s who worked on the railways in the sixties.

Triumph Akaw!

Surfer – Sunday evening with a gnarly week ahead; we need epic swell to get on the sticks deck and look for hollows and charge the tubes and ride the green room.

Rx

Lozenge- the prescription for escaping the hubbub of today’s breakneck pace and unrelenting demands is to get out on a motorcycle, find some less trafficked roads and open ‘er up. Three pills, each 650cc, take as often as possible.

Allay Cat – finally put the finishing touches to the Cub. Tank decals, oil bag sticker, few tuning tweaks to the cables and tidy-up of wires. Had a quick run around some local alleys to rattle through the gears. Fun scoot! Just took 4 years!

Looking Up! Here’s a blue sky backdrop for a studious owner and her nipping clean silver-grey and black Triumph Cub.

Azure Lake Horizon

Sunlit Shores – I took a quick spin on this draughty Sunday afternoon to fettle some running tuning. Lake Michigan had a deep turquoise horizon and steel grey water before lapping against the sandy shore.

Pup

Pre Cub- a smaller Triumph before the Tiger Cub was the Terrier. At 150cc the diminutive scoot was a pocket watch against the larger carriage clock scaled 500 & 650 motos. But hey when you just need it to be motorcycle o’clock any two-wheeled machine will do! Miss Bobbie certainly appears happy.

Giddy up

Gearing Up – the work involved in stepping up from a 19 to 21 tooth front sprocket required some notching to be done to the case so the larger diameter gear could be slotted into the primary drive axle. 21 equally spaced grooves. Whilst I was in there the clutch was renewed which gives an very noticeable grab when throttle is applied. The gearing give about 12% extra wheel revolutions for the same engine speed.
