Chronograph Triumph

Some inventive model hobbyist has taken a box of old watch parts and reassembled them into a motorcycle. Well at least at idle the engine should tickover very well!

a Right Pair

A long morning in the saddle up into Wisconsin with fair weather and a stop at Morries Place to see the British motorcycle wizard Ed Zender. Brunch at Twin Lakes WI. Bonnie’s running like tops (for the most part).

Sunny Smiles

Perfect, perfect, perfect. Saturday morning ride in wonderful conditions. Cool shade and warm sun. Bike running well and traffic very light. The wee ravines along the north shore offered some enjoyable moderate sweeping curves. It fuels the mind, body and soul. August days…

“you know nothing Jon Snow!”

Apart from what a good motorcycle is… Looking countrified for a GQ cover here’s actor Kit Harington with a black Bonnie ready to take on The Great North Road.

Ready to take on the White Walkers..

Wheels Real

Putting plans into action for the next Bonnie upgrade. The standard steel rims add a lot of unsparing weight to the bike and as was done in ‘the day’ I’m going to get hold of some hubs and lace ’em to alloy rims then shod the new lighter wheel with modern rubber.

Oiler

I’ve relocated the screw on oil filter to a more accessible position just above the gearbox. Piping runs smoothly and keeping the precious lubricant clean is an easier task.

Dog Days of Summer

Hot, hot day here in the Midwest. A short ride to try a blow a waft of cool air across the back. The odd spot along the lagoons and one or two sections where Lake Michigan touches the leafy ravines offered respite.

Smootch Stoppie

I’m not sure of the early 70’s oil in frame Bonneville with its conical front brake could pull off a stoppie like this but it’s worth dreaming about!

This is how it’s done properly!

Four Thou

Checking the valve rocker clearances: plugs out, first gear and turn engine over with kicker until left or right exhaust valve is just starting to close again then check clearance under the other tappet. Slip appropriate feeler in (or just rattle rocker to feel a very slight ‘tick-tack’). Adjust as necessary then recheck. Repeat for other side. Then repeat for intake valve tappets at two thou gap. Job done!

Doff

A Motoblot image just cropped up. Taken as my comrade on wheels Dean and I arrive to the recent street-fest event in Chicago. His spit clean ’68 looking sparking next to my rough 72’etc Orange Bonnie. I’m removing my yellow hornéd Davida lid as we line up in the British section.

Some Assembly Required

Like a three dimensional jigsaw puzzle a collection of parts sits waiting for a spanner handed Triumph nut to cobble them together into its sum.

Trumpet

There were many Triumph motorcycles there yesterday with the new Bonneville and Thruxton well represented. Each with slight personal variations to provide an individual touch from the proud owners. From an odd decal or handlebar grips to pegs and exhaust.  it’s still a very attractive bike in stock or fettled condition…

Motoblot

Perfect weather for the annual premiere motorbike gathering today: Motoblot. Hundreds of motos in all shapes and sizes: mostly Triumph with plenty of Ducatis, Beemers, old Hondas and a smattering of American Iron. A backing soundtrack of live rock music and burger ‘n’ beer at the Cobra Lounge pub. Pics will be posted over the next few days…

Hugh (the other) Laurie on his chosen ride: a Triumph Bonnie. We also know him as Bertie.

Wooster with indispensable essential valet Jeeves. The perfect pairing for a perfect comedy fro PG Wodehouse…

The Longest Day

Warm weather with fluffy clouds across a hazy blue sky. It would have been rude not to roll out The Bonnie and take her for a gentle cruise up north. An odd waft of cool air drifted from the Lake gave comfort to the slightly muggy atmosphere. My leather jacket had all vents open and the front zipper down somewhat. Nevertheless the feathers were ruffled and the ride enjoyed.
