I’m in the Hill Country at Austin Texas. For motorcycles it brings to mind Johnny Allen’s Texas Ceegar. The twin engined streamlined Triumph that linked the Bonneville name to Triumph forever.

Needle and Thread: back when, the world had simpler pleasures for couples looking for togetherness. The seventies was a decade of crafts, self improvement, gaudy colors and macrame. But in the end you just had to get on yer bike and go for a spin across the fields.

Today on the local Craigslist is a clean three year old Bonnie for just under seven grand. Just over the State line in Fontana Wisconsin.

Large scale canvas: a near lifesize painting of a Triumph Bonneville by artist John Robertson. (As the watermark says).
Moody, with textured contrast. Good line of motorbike form and geometry. Looseness to the brushstrokes yet firm deliberation.
I’d hang this on my wall…

As the glow of embers were dying in the British motorcycle industry during the early eighties there was a sole flame flickering. The Triumph T140W a 750cc with bells and whistles from a 70’s technology than the fresh superbike era of 1983. The Ninja 900 was 12 months away…

If it is mechanically tight in sure its a fine machine… Twin discs, electronic ignition, cast wheels suitable for newer rubber. I kinda like it.

There is a fairly straightforward brake upgrade for the seventies disc stoppers that my Bonnie has. A 12″ floating disc with cooling holes and a mount adapter for tge extra inch of lever provided. With stainless steel clad lines and a freshened up master cylinder this will certainly give superior anchoring.

A Paul Simonon painting of a dour T100 Triumph Bonneville. Stealthy, gothic, oily. Looks like you could hop on her and hare off down to Boxhill. Looks like our Clash bass-man has this very machine.

Artist, bassist, motorcyclist. Punk. Paul Simonon is the greasy biker, musician painter with a new exhibit of his leather ‘n’ cigarette imagery. On show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts ICA in London.
The Clash set the music scene on fire with such greats as London Calling and Rock the Casbah. He was the Fender Precision Bass wielding rocker on the cover of the bands third album. Hailed as the greatest music photograph of all time taken by Bennie Smith at The Palladium in New York.

Interesting graphic: sometimes you need to change the angle of your viewpoint. I like the technicality as well of the realism of reflected surfaces of this Triumph Oil-in-Frame Bonneville. I hope I don’t see my moto at this angle with me aboard. As they’d say: “goin’ arse o’er tit”.

Going through tough times. In need of some rear support to gain traction. No gas in the tank, indeed no tank. Saddle-up? Well, no saddle. Flat tired. Rusty around the edges as well as middle… And underside. Wiring loom needs reweaving. Amal is AWOL. Seen better days. Would like to enjoy retirement. Or willing to be organ or limb donor!

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart’s in the Highlands wherever I go.
Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow;
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below;
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods;
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart’s in the Highlands wherever I go.
Robbie Burns (1759-1796)

Splendid line drawing with character of someone’s beloved ride. This was a commissioned piece used to adorn a mug created by a ceramist in the UK.

Winter has arrived in Chicago. An inch or so today to be followed by minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit wind chills overnight and a forecast of six inches of drifting snow tomorrow. Moto mounted plow is needed in JCB yellow… Chain’d wheels and salt spreader too.

Someone has turned a recent model Bonneville into a capable mile muncher. Some suspension mods, aluminum cases, windscreen, tank bag. Back roads have never seemed more attractive.

More esses on the path ahead!

NOT a good look! Someone had mounted a BMW boxer fairing to a Bonneville. True affrontery!
