Another photo of the gorgeous Ms Welch being taken care of by local motorcycle gendarmerie at the ‘66 Cannes film festival.

One of the twentieth century’s sex symbols, Raquel Welch, passed away today aged 82. Known for her furry bikini outfit that she wore in One Million Years BC then featured on a poster adorning many teenage boys walls – later used to cover Andy Dufresne’s cell wall escape hole. “Time and Pressure”. She’s looking darn purdy on this vintage motorcycle.

Lo! Young we are and yet have stood
like planted hearts in the great Sun
of Love so long (as two fair trees
in woodland or in open dale
stand utterly entwined and breathe
the airs and suck the very light
together) that we have become
as one, deep rooted in the soil
of Life and tangled in the sweet growth.
JRR Tolkien

Wa introduced to a friends old car last evening. Tucked away in a nice garage space in the suburbs of the Twin Cities. Pulling the dust cover back revealed a large American car from the early seventies. A behemoth of a convertible with massive 8.2liter v10 engine. Long trunk and matching interior. I was told it rides as smooth as a cloud.

USO favorite Bob Hope looking smart on this well-travelled BSA with a lady friend- approximately 1950 so he’s well into the series of Road to… films with co-star Bing Crosby. Signs on the bike refer to riding 101 through the Redwood forested Mendocino County.

Street artist from the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago had a show on at the Elmhurst Art Museum. His street graffiti style depicts a youth with bird mask, a person who is able to find or escape to their freedom by placing them in a different reality. Here’s a canvas of him cruising on a low rider.

A BBC cameraman haring around a muddy scramble wearing the tech equipment of its day to capture the riders view of a race. BSA acting as dolly, I’m sure the transmission paraphernalia isn’t too lightweight either being strapped to his back mounted on some scaffolding.

Mr. Fox on a motorcycle with Ash, Kris, and Kylie speaking to a wolf off on a distant ridge.
Mr. Fox: Where did you come from? What are you doing here? [to the others] I don’t think he speaks English or Latin. [to the wolf] Pensez-vous que l’hiver sera rude? [to the others] I’m asking if he thinks we’re in for a hard winter. [to the wolf] I have a phobia of wolves.
Through all this, the wolf has not responded.
Mr. Fox: What a beautiful creature. [to the others] Wish him luck boys.
Mr Fox raises his paw. The wolf mirrors the gesture in solidarity.

Agreement in Union – Concorde. Developed from early studies in the fifties, joint collaboration between the British and French in the sixties, first flight in ‘69 and into service late 70’s. Sadly way ahead of the worlds travelling needs and retired in ‘03. The cockpit was extremely complex requiring a pilot, copilot and engineer. Maintaining a cruise speed of 1,347mph at 60,000’ takes a special machine that needs constant oversight.

Stirruped leggings, winged spectacles, and a puddin’ bowl helmet. She’s dressed for riding success aboard the bathtubbed Thunderbird.

Old found object. Some tarnished aluminum and speckled finish. A ‘66 Trophy lost in Concord Michigan looking for a willing restoration.

1964 – E Germany bound. Steve McQueen getting the bikes they used for the International Six Day Trials behind the iron curtain. Other fella is John Steen, also an off-road racer who, along with Ed Kretz Jr., Cliff Coleman and Dave & Bud Ekins, were key players in the SoCal desert racing scene. Steens family we’re in the oil & lubricant business as well as the popular ‘Taco’ mini bike. Steve looks as cool as ever with the desert boots, white socks, Fred Perry polo shirt and Persol sunglasses. (acknowledgements to Les Elmer in NZ for finding this image)

– a well loaded BMW GS heading up an alpine road. Hard case panniers, dry bags and spare tires. An adventure is certainly afoot!
