Ship of the Desert – the dromedary s ideally adapted to the dry, sandy conditions of the desert. Hence their use for time immemorial to track back and forth across the driest parts of the planet. However they bite, spit, smell, and if you don’t want the whole Lawrence of Arabia experience then plump for a desert sled Triumph.

Charioteers- Brave commando frogmen drive these torpedo ‘pigs’ to attack the Axis’ strategic ports and harbours. Rubber wetsuits and barium hydroxide laden rebreather ‘s. Dark, cold waters…

Sur le Piste – seasonal speed. Me too, I’d rather be on my Triumph. This looks like the cartoon illustration of a pair of Scots negotiating the slopes of Cairngorm.

Haute Couture- Amaranth Red Speed Twin offers this youthful clean cut model a suitable accessory to show off the Bikers Down Jacket by Balmain of Paris. A $2,000 coat- I’m sure it’s cosy for a chilly spring afternoon in Milan. But you should be wearing proper leathers to be taken seriously on two-wheels. The Balmain Leather jacket is over $5k and NOT made for the road. Purely pedestrian fashion.

It’s a Way of Life – riding motorcycles puts you into a minority. A minority who enjoys the open road with a free wind and adventurous bent. And Triumph riders? They’re the select few who enjoy the Truth of that road: it’s life giving enjoyment, and soul feeding meaning.
(Don’t take me too seriously folks! )

Walt Disney – The Magic Kingdom’s rodent master Mickey takes to the lanes on a slick chopper. White gloved thumbs-up, leathers ‘n’ Levi’s keep our squeaky voiced lil’ feller on the cool side.

Psychedelic Rome – true 70’s imagery from the guys in Milan for the twin & triple machines going head-to-head with the Ducati’s and Moto Guzzi’s of the day. A kind of grounded Peter Max look but used effectively on clothing sewing patterns of the early hippie seventies.

Zora – New Triumph Tiger patch added to my boiler suit. Well the kitty decided to make a bed of it. Sleepy eyed finely whiskered feline.

Please don’t make me angry; you won’t like me when I’m angry. The latest iteration of the green behemoth via The Avengers movie sees the diminutive physicist Dr Bruce Banner being played by as bespectacled Mark Ruffalo. His mode of transport? A dusty patina’d Triumph looking like it’s seen plenty of lonely miles. This model kit at sixth scale certainly lost is the part for any comic book fan.

The Atlantic Ocean Road – the sinuous stretch of County Road 64 that leaps from craggy isle to cove to hamlet in Eide and Averøy in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. Like the annum ahead it meanders serpentine to a destination on the horizon.

NYR – New Year’s Resolutions: the time of year when you need to take stock and wistfully ponder on what the heck you got up to and wonder what bedevilment you can get up to in the ensuing year. Here’s mine: project; new bike; travel; go places with my lass.

Tickler – every classic bike owner knows this procedure: petrol tap open; push in the carburetor tickler to enrich the bowls and fuelling; whiff of throttle; then a healthy hoof of the kick-starter. Here’s a gauntlet donned rider of the fairer sex carrying out such a start-up. Nice Photo from a Japanese rocker outfit.

Start ’em Young! My nephew, Ben, has just acquired his first motorbike. A little pit bike with knobbly tyres, wide bars, springy suspension, and a kick-start. All good things for fun on two-wheels. Plenty of green lanes and muddy fields in the Borders to get clarty. I can hear the engine ring and smell the two-stroke from here…
