Ralph Mouse

The Mouse that Roared! Kids love a good story of adventure and action whereby the underdog makes good. This classic tale of a rodent on his red ride is much loved by the bairns.

Children’s drawings, cartoon sketches and a movie.

I particularly love this book cover with a delicate illustration of mouse and moto! The motorcycle looks like a Triumph Thunderbird.

“Come on! I ain’t got all day!”

Action Figure – on Monday past we saw the real Daryl Dixon stoking his Triumph chopper in search of the undead. Today is the ultra detailed ‘collector’ toy in poseable form with well defined bike components and machinery.

Red Special

The Fireplace – Brian May’s guitar, was made by him and his father Harold back in the sixties. It has created, with the magical touches of a musical maestro, some of the greatest sounds of the late Twentieth Century.

The Old Lady – her secrets were revealed during a full nut & bolt restoration. The tremolo arm is sprung by a pair of motorcycle valve springs from a 1928 Panther.

Happy Birthday Brian! 69 today!

The Riding Live

Daryl Dixon – anti hero, expert tracker and Walker killer on the legend AMC show The Walking Dead. Played by Norman Reedus his transport in a post apocalyptic world is a Triumph chopper; probably what mine would have ended up looking like if it wasn’t liberated from the biker gang in West Chicago.

Moto du Table

Put finishing touches to my bike work ramp. Made from mostly found scraps it lets me raise the Moto a couple of feet to carry out maintenance without crawling around on my knees. Starting to line up the off-season list of work: replace slipping clutch plates, replace oil lines, oil cooler… But, hey, it’s still only July! Plenty of riding to do yet!

July Jaunt

Simply smashing ride this afternoon. Perfect weather and roads not too busy. Bikes running like the preverbial tops.

The Great British Baking Show

Cake – the current season of the baking show which features ordinary folk test their cooking skills under a white tent in an English manor houses garden. Mary Berry the octogenarian judge has a sweet disposition that mirrors the delicious offerings conjured up rack week. No, she doesn’t zoom around on a Ducati superbike! That’s the other judge Paul Hollywoods ride. Keen gear head and rider he’s just taken possession of a ‘silly-fast’ Kawasaki H2. 200hp on the road, track version 300hp.

Gas Mark 7 for 30 minutes and you’ll be well and truly baked!

Shangri-La

Kashmir – one of the jewels of the Indian Crown. Flower heavy valleys with tea fed villages amidst soaring mountains dappled in an icy grip. Ideal ground to take an old Triumph or, even better, a Royal Enfield. One of my dream journeys.

Clearing a Cough

Gertie the GTI was blowing an exhaust connection so I had a back alley shop lift her up and weld a new sleeve on. Her tune is bright and clear now.

Rickman Rocket

Green Goddess: what a beauty. Racing green Metisse Trident with plenty of go-faster goodies such as Norman Hyde 850cc jugs . It’s got a for sale notice on it too! This one is made for the road.

Brexit Brouhaha

A new Prime Minister was announced today back in blighty. After all the political shenanigans of the last couple of weeks where the population voted to leave the European Union and those that laid the way have jumped ship then a new leader was seen to be the best option… Good luck everyone in the UK… You’re gonna need it!

Stop Motion

Triptych – sequence of movement: one, two, three. Fun with overlays and composition to evoke a sense of speed along the road.

Of shadows & light

Saturday morning ride – crisp 60’s weather and light traffic for a splendid jaunt up through the northern suburbs. The three mile stretch along the Skokie Lagoons offered an opportune moment for a photo stop.

Fierce Friday

Queen of the Rockers – with a sharp glint in her eye this biker babe is r-r-r-ready to R-U-M-B-L-E! Tres Instagramme…

Diorama #3

Oil Thumbed Haynes manual, packet of Players No6 fags, and a well used pein hammer. Yes, it’s another scratchbuilt diorama fabricated from base plastic and wire. Scaled reality.

Based around the sublime BSA Goldstar it’s a watchmakers motorcycle restoration. Love the daylight beaming in from a roof light.
