The bulldog breed: symbol of masculine power. Mars the bringer of War; the spear used in the symbol of male gender. Also the alchemists symbol for iron, thought to be the red planets composition by early stargazers. It is actually Iron oxide or Hematite. Fe2O3

Since you started the “Cub ” project, I have been trying to remember the name of my favourite road-going Cub, which always escaped me.?
And here it is on this poster.. the “Mountain Cub”.. the very one.!
And as a road bike prospect it looks fit and serious, not nerdy and weedy as most road Cubs were regarded in period. Sure there were works and dealer and privateer Trials Cubs and very good, really good too. But they didn’t give the “halo” effect onto other Cubs, in period.
I can’t ever remember seeing a Mountain Cub at home, only ever at such as Stafford show. Most must surely have gone for export.?
But they are gorgeous and a real Trail looking bike before Trail had been thought of.. at least the Jap’s hadn’t arrived yet and filled the market with product.. but the 70’s were only a very years away..
