Saddle Up! | I recently acquired a Corbin seat for the Tiger and after putting it on the bike went for a very brief spin down to the lake. Firm and comfy. Should make longer trips bearable for the butt.

Sergeant Murphy | the stereotypical Irish American Motorcycle cop from the imaginative busy busy world of Richard Scarry was always zooming around on his red bike wearing a white crash helmet ‘lid’. I grew up with these books with a diverse animal citizenry. Happy St Patrick’s Day! The Chicago River is green here in the Windy City.

New Zealand | it’s an almost forgotten corner of the world but by all accounts of visitors it’s one of the most beautiful place on the globe. Kiwis are a friendly lot and the indigenous Māori a proud people. Today’s shocking news of a terrorist attack with unsurpassable horror is a blow to humanity. Let us think of what good the antipodean nation gives the motorcycling community as a ray of light in this day of darkness: Burt Munro and his 1924 Indian Scout at home on The Salt; and genius John Britten with the sublime V1000 racebike.

Lightning | an unusual marketing move using the image of Mach 2 capable RAF jets to promote the futuristic appeal of the 350cc ‘Twenty One”. The streamlined semi-enclosing bodywork may create a sense of tomorrow especially that rear ‘bathtub’. Nevertheless I like the page layout and mid century graphic form.

Car Boot Sale | a note seen last weekend at one of the numerous ‘flea markets’ in the UK. Typically the tables are loaded with cheap offerings from peoples house emptying efforts, but here someone was using the opportunity to locate something… I probably have these in a box of spares from my own Cub rebuild but the cost to ship ’em back to blighty would outweigh their cost of picking the items up locally.

Three One Two | The area code for Chicago and today’s date March the Twelfth. Here’s a ripper of a custom cafe by the lads at Analog Motorcycles, a small scale custom ‘shop based in Waukegan IL. The donor bike is an ’08 Thruxton and plenty of goodies were added to its capable chassis to assemble a very unique machine. It ain’t brutish, nor a wallflower, but is purposeful with a confident stance.

Slartibartfast | The renowned Magrathean planet designer who won awards for his coastline design of the Norwegian fjords. These are roads I would most certainly like to travel upon with two wheels.
Today -11th March – is interstellar Towel day; being the birthday of Douglas Adams (1952-2001)

Rocker Drumroll | Quiff’d and leather jacketed; this young leather boy curls his lip up at the camera ready to rumble the streets of inner cities and country A-roads alike.

L-Plates | The perfect little motorcycle to learn on: a lightweight and easy to control Triumph Cub 200cc. 1950’s swing dress on a bonnie lady under an English sun. The large windshield should keep the skirt fabric under some control.

Mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, aunts, nieces, grandmothers | International Women’s Day: March 8th. Celebrate all the incredibly strong women in your life – not just on Women’s Day but every day!

Hero for All | Valentina Tereshkova celebrates her 82nd birthday today. Launched atop Vostok 6 on June 16 1963 she spent 70 hours in space orbiting the Earth 48 times becoming the first woman cosmonaut.

Optimism | Iconic motorcycles usually look back for inspiration. Tradition, timeliness, nostalgia. “If it ain’t broke; don’t fix it!” Well sometimes we need lifted by inspiration of a dream that could be. Sci-Fi is an escape to days of what-could-be. Not the bleak dystopian horizon that current world events often hint at: but a exciting dynamic Brave New World. This slick offering from Barbara Future Custom Motorcycle looks ready for 2059 – one hundred years after the legendary Bonneville.
Oh. And the future is electric too!

Rat Bike | a bag of odds ‘n’ ends combined into a particular taste in machinery. An oily rag special which just needs the long straight highways of the SW States to draw out its nuanced style.
“The river flows, it flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes that’s where I want to be
Flow river flow, let your waters wash down
Take me from this road to some other town”
Roger McGuinn (w/ Bob Dylan)

Jon and Dorothea – Mr & Mrs Bongiovi lookin’ like a happy couple riding a Harley softail across the desert of Moab where he was filming the video for their chart topping hit from Young Guns II “Blaze of Glory”. Jon Bon Jovi is 57 today. Cowboy boots ‘n’ all!

Victory – we made it to the weekend again. Alas here in the Midwest the weather isn’t improving anytime soon. But Spring will be with us soon enough! These gals are enjoying the twisties along some SoCal roadway…
