A great of the theatre, film and TV, Patrick Stewart was always a solid character in anything he played in. I always see Paul Atreides’ fighting instructor and troubadour Gurney Halleck with that distinctive bald pate and crisp English accent. Of course Jean-Luc Picard and Professor Charles Xavier were his zenith roles. Born a Yorkshireman he gained a knighthood for his work in drama and an advocate for rescue pit bulls.
