Stars ‘n’ Stripes

All the Gear All the Time

Seven years ago today I was sworn in as an American. In hindsight perhaps I should have been wearing one of these for the duration under the political adventures we’ve been through…

It’s a small world…

The model is for all intents and purposes complete. Spent the afternoon adding oily and muddy patina to the bike. Looking like it’s just been ridden from the Normandy beaches to the Ardenne.

Blue Sky

Red Barn

Marvelous day on the road today. 250 miles on a route around the bottom of the Lake into Michigan on lanes lined with trees leafing out. Lilac fragrance wafted from farm hedges laden with bloom and rolling fields being watched over by soaring hawks. This old barn was seen in the small town of Eau Claire MI.

Cats Eyes

Most Illuminating

The Big Kitty got a pair of auxiliary lights affixed to it today. Added brightness down the road ahead and better conspicuousness in traffic. AA

Roadside Assistance

– old photo of an AA patrolman maneuvering their recovery combination through some snow drifts. Heavy insulated overalls to keep the cold at bay. My grandfather George Lawrie would have been clad as such whilst plying the roads of North Northumberland.

Assembly Required

New Project

– here’s something that will keep me out of trouble for a few rainy afternoons. A 1/9 scale WW2 era Triumph 3HW. The ubiquitous single cylinder workhorse of the British forces. Indeed it is the motorcycle used by my grandfather George in his duties as a Military Policeman in the North African theatre.

Weathering

Rust ‘no Polish

My new project arrived in the mail today. A plastic model kit of a 1943 wartime Triumph. After assembly I’ll need to decide if it’ll be in a clean fresh from the factory look or well ridden appearance.

Dusty Coverin’

Arid Adventure

Someone has taken the road less traveled with their Tiger and accumulated layers of desert, otherwise known as experience. This image reminds me: I need to get some knobby tires ordered…
