Incline

Uphill – This lady kills in roadworthy leathers and boots; hair color with attitude; and a clean Triumph Scrambler. Parked on one of the less steep streets of San Francisco – gotta make sure it’s parked pointing uphill ideally with the rear tire against a curb. Nice composition.

Friday friends

Commanding pose – beautiful black & white photography by the talented Giles Clements of a serious lass, half akimbo, and shouldered jacket stance by a splendid Norton. Great balance of dark/light, shadow/highlight, form/space.

Lydia

Tat’s a nice motorbike- late sixties Bonnie laid up outside an Inking establishment. Lifetime Tattoo is a parlor located in Denver so our Coloradan ‘Lydia’ enjoys mile high biking of the British kind.

“Lydia, oh! Lydia, say have you met Lydia

Oh! Lydia, the tattooed lady

She has eyes that folks adore so

And a torso even more so

Lydia, oh! Lydia, that “Encyclopedia”

Oh! Lydia, the Queen of tattoo

On her back is the Battle of Waterloo

Beside it the Wreck of the Hesperus too

And proudly above the waves

The Red, White and Blue

You can learn a lot from Lydia…”

Chocks Away

WAAF – Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, furthering our WW2 flight theme look at this tiger gaped Bonneville. Jerry can pannier is a appropriate detail, and the big wartime yellow ringed roundel seals the deal. As they say: ” Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast!”

Remember to lean into the corner

Mike the Bike – born this day in 1940 Mike Hailwood went on to become one of the most naturally talented road racer of all time. As well as a maestro at GP in all sized engines he could also beat the best of ’em at the Isle of Man TT. His 1978 comeback for the Senior TT is the stuff of legend. Mike looks most comfortable as pillion to James Bond Film actress and ’69 Miss World Eva Rueber-Staier on a Triumph motorcycle. photo taken at Thruxton, UK, on 1st August 1971

He was awarded the George Medal for bravery after pulling Clay Regazzoni from his burning F1 car at the S Africa Grand Prix in 1973.

1200cc

Cafe Society- perfect looking Thruxton given a suitably photogenic black and white portrait treatment. Luv Cartier-Bresson would be impressed that even in this day and age of high-def imagery we always fall back on the nostalgia of monochrome photography.

Black Bike – low seat, aped bars, hard tail, straight pipes… we’re talkin’ ATTITUDE! Don’t mess with this sister; she’ll chew ya up and spit you out so much as glower at you. Ebony chopper matches her black tank top and bandanna.

Sunny Days

Field of Dreams – late summer grass sward under a clear sky. A countryside journey’s rest accompanied by twirlpling nightingale’s singing from unseen heights.

Give me the splendid silent sun, with all his beams full-dazzling;

Give me juicy autumnal fruit, ripe and red from the orchard;

Give me a field where the unmow’d grass grows;

Fore!

Mashie or Niblick? What better way to head to The Links than on a trusty BSA with your dog as co-pilot? Better make sure the wheels don’t get snagged by an errant Baffing Spoon!

Rouge dans la Nuit

Red Molly – flowing crimson locks under a moonlit star-studded sky. The muse in Richard Thompson’s most known song; who was given the keys for a ’52 Black Lightning by her dying beau James Adie, as he gasps his last breath from injuries sustained from armed robbery.

Illustrator Brett Breckon from the UK has created a stunning vision of le femme Moto.

Using a process called scraperboard it is the removal of black ink to reveal a white subsurface. The dark mass of a Vincent and it’s leather-clad rider are perfect for such a media.

Tanned

Cowhide Couple – the twosome that ride together ‘hide together. Prim pair sporting neat and stiff Langlitz Leathers. These Cascade jackets are still available from the 70 year old manufacturer. Spanking new Triumph is ‘fashion accessory’.
