sláinte

Beck’s is all Highland cool now with his own designer label whisky which glugs from an oversized azure aftershave bottle being slugged by a bevy of oh-so pretty rich Mac-yuppies.

The Guy Richie directed mini-film shows off the lochs, glens and castles to beautiful effect and our lad David has a nimble little Triumph to cavort over the heather.

“William Wallace whur are ye!”

Rolling Free

A madcap recreation of the renowned speed run record carried out by Rollie Free in 1948 aboard what has become known as ‘The bathing suit bike’. A Vincent Black Lightning was used then but this dedicated speed freak is on an early 70’s Triumph Bonneville to capture glory. It won’t reach the 150mph Vincent record but it shown nerve and pluck.

*Throwback Thursday

Here’s me enjoying a spring ride back in ’05 on my Twenty year old Ninja. The now classic Kawasaki ZX900 in Top Gun colors. A jaunt up to and around Lake Geneva was my favorite hare. The photos are taken on a sturdy and trusty Nikon F3. Darned good camera and a darnder good Moto too!

Freewheelin’

This couple is obviously enjoying one of the great things in life: autumnal ride with that cool but golden light you get after the Autumnal Equinox lighting up the scenery.

These are the moments you relish.

Framed

A mosaic of images to evoke the journey travelled yesterday.

“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Road Rode

Short Sunday jaunt to enjoy the late summer weather. No autumnal colors yet; but blue skies with fluffy clouds and a refreshing breeze to the moving air made for near perfect roads

I was able to capture some ‘on-the-move’ images to highlight the proceedings. The smile is obligatory for days like this!

I must also report that now I’m running a higher octane fuel (93) the bike is running so much better. Dean had noticed a rich smell to my exhaust as well as the dieseling or run-on after I was shutting down. I also experienced pinging when throttling up under load.

Deans Bonnie was running sweetly too.

Goli U Sedlu

Slovenian freedom on the high roads of Central Europe. Chopper modified twin takes a break in the Former Yugoslavian city of Ljubljana. These early Seventies biker youths must have seen the recently released Easy Rider and dreamed of a Captain American trip along the Adriatic.

1+1+1

Make three: we were joined in the Sunday ride by David and his stunning BMW R75\5. It was a gleaming Teutonic machine that stood out as the three of us louped along Highway 12 through Indiana into Michigan. The Triumph were like a couple of English terrier scamps to this smooth Powerful German Shepherd of a bike. The weather couldn’t have been better and the roads not too busy for this time of year.

Go Skate!

“Don’t let anything poison your individuality. Break away & look in, not outward.” ~ Rodney Mullen.

Skateboarder genius Mullen roars down some SoCal lane giving up truck’ four wheels for two. Pillion is free to the wind like our lad Rod must feel when freestylin’ his tricks like the Ollie, flip-kick and other flat ground tricks that heralded a new wave of skating in the eighties.

The Moto is an early 70’s Triumph.

The Man who mistook his Wife for his Motorcycle…

Dr Oliver Sacks the world renowned neurologist passed away last weekend at the age of 82. I life exploring the inner workings of the mind and consciousness, identity and memory.

He was portrayed by Robin Williams in the film Awakenings, based on one of his many books about patient cases.

He was also a biker: here, a young faced rider grinning widely after a hare about on a classic Norton Dominator DeLuxe 600.

He was also a big swimmer, an early muscular physique show off his powerful arms and legs. Again a solid motorcycle his steed. At this time in the early sixties he also sampling in the hallucinogenic drugs of the time “pharmacological experimentation”; further expanding his mind.

Manny’s

Overcast Sunday morning but dry roads seen us head north just into Wisconsin again to sample the breakfast fare at Manny’s Snack Shack in Twin Lakes. The titular owner is a flash of eggs, rashers, links and potato at the big griddle whirling away at the greasy orders. Patrons cram into the few available tables having coffees topped up, gazing at the odd collection of wall decorations. Mainly fire or police  t-shirts, fishing trophys, or Da Bears team paraphernalia.
A big three stack of blueberry pancakes even beat me!

A real gem of a place though, and truly worthy of being a weekend morning ride destination!

Le Chiffre

The Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is astoundingly sleekly creepy as the cannibal Dr Hannibal Lechter. However his Bond antagonist in the Daniel Craig 007 introductory movie Casino Royale was shiveringly chilly. He suits a Thruxton though; with a cool urban look.

He can keep a cat in check too…
