Monochrome

Black ‘n’ White

A grainy b&w photo reminds me of countless hours spent in darkrooms developing 35mm negatives into sheets of glossy Ilford multigrade. Ah I love the sharp smell of Stop Bath under a red safe light…

Postcard

Dear All,

Having a marvelous time. Scenery pleasant, company good, roadside attractions zany, weather warm, and traffic light. Wish you were here.

The Main Street of America’s

Route 66

We had a full day ride looping mid-north Illinois. Heading down old Highway Sixty Six from where it springs at Lake Shore Drive it runs parallel to Interstate 55 through small grain fed towns. A stretch between Dwight and Bloomington has a vestige of one of the southbound lanes alongside the road. The telegraph poles still line the grass cracked asphalt.

Don’t forget your flask…

Simpler Times:

A delightful photograph from past days with a happy couple enjoying a cuppa along some quiet country road. The Triumph ‘Twenty One’ carried them there in competent fashion and a post war bucolic England let’s them relax trouble-free.

Coach House

Alleyway Architecture

Near my garage where the bikes are kept is this old garage and loft. The old doors, siding and shingle are great time worn vintage features that are only seen along this Evanstonian alley.

Apple Green

Sixties Vibes

Tiptoes and knee high socks. Narrow bars turning a pair of lengthened forks backed up with a cushy swept back saddle. Pea colored coffin tank matches the trim jacket. Well, how else are you going to get to your private jet from the executive terminal?b

Ride on boyo!

Smiling Hound

– Welsh singer actor Lee Evans promoting a thirties vibe in sheepskin lined belted leather coat, tall engineer boots, and over the shoulder napsack. The Vincent Comet is a suitable motorcycle prop for the magazine shoot. The vintage backdrop adds a perfect foil.

Selfie

Quayside

– a fun rear camera shot of the two of us on the harbor front. Lake Michigan stirring in a light odorous chop with a cooling air drifted over the freshwater to us.

Beacon for Shipping

Lighthouse Keeper

Nice summer ride up along the Lake into Wisconsin and a stop off at Kenosha Harbor. A still water stirred by the occasional fishing boat or pleasure craft. New (to me) Aerostich jacket worked admirably in the upper 70’s temperatures.

35mm

Abode of the Gods

News yesterday was that the Olympus Corporation are getting out of the camera business. With the advent of ever increasing resolution and features on smart phones standalone digital photography can’t compete. So, like the advancement from film to digital, we’re starting to see the progression away from traditional photographic equipment. I still have a fridge drawer full of Ilford HP5, Fujichrome, Kodak Ektachrome… perhaps I should pick up a trusty OM-1 for old tunes sake.

Well, as George said “All things must pass”

‘Orses

Mill Creek Hunt

– est. 1897 | one of the stops on this ride through an unseasonably cool June afternoon had us stop in at this old stable located along Hunt Club Road.

Seventeen Hundred Pages

Ten Years

– as GeordieBiker nears its 10 years I’ve been looking into a way of memorializing the over 3,300 posts that have accumulated over its lifetime. I had a PDF document prepared which contains all 1,707 pages of blog posts (to date). It’s nice to skim through and reminisce on past rides, or musings, or image finds.

Seven Years

Two of Us

– we recreated the classic photo of designers Charles and Ray Eames a while back. All I needed was a pipe to complete the look.

Layby

Via Volo

– the return leg of Saturday’s ride brought us back along the delightful Gilmer Road. A leafy road that winds through Lake Country passing horse farms and old railway lines; passes barns and crosses multiple county roads ready to explore.

US 12 & HWY’s 12 & 67

Old Roadhouse at the intersection

– one of our stops for a leg stretch was at this abandoned crossroads building. You can imagine hoarded of Harley Davidson bickered swarming around at this corner on a Sunday morning before roaring around the backroads then heading back to Milwaukee after a spin around the Moraine’s.
