Country Road

Rural Retreat

– perfect weather allowed us to explore a few more back roads through the agricultural setting of Lake County. This gravel lane in particular was especially inviting. Shoulder height corn field to port and fallow arable to starboard. White farm building clusters ahead.

Solidarity Drive

View from the Planetarium

– I took a slight detour on my way home for a lakefront view back to the City. Hot here – in the nineties. The Navy jets have been practicing over the skyline today.

Grate Roads

Crossing the River

– many of the City’s bridges have open metal decks. It makes the tires a little squirrelly, and you can see the water below. But they’re used effectively for the many bascule bridges through Chicago.

Nothing beats…

..knobbly tires on a Tiger.

Get Lost!

Mountain Tracks

– it would be great to take the Tiger along a gravel road amidst snow clad peaks. Like where this 1200 Tiger’s owner has taken theirs. Wilderness destination.

Green belt

Boulevard route

We took an inner city tour of Chicago today riding the 100 year old tree lined historic Boulevard system. From Jackson and Washington Park in the south; along Garfield and Western; past Sherman, Gage and McKinley Park; through Douglas, Garfield and Humboldt Parks; then through Logan Square, it offers a great cross section through Chicago. The gilt Statue of the Republic, located in Jackson Park, erected in 1918, is a golden reminder of the 1893 World’s Colombian Exposition.

Lakeview

Waters Edge

– took a quick spin up the coast. The temperatures were ideal and a fresh breeze off the lake kept proceedings comfortable. The water had a beautiful turquoise hue against the clear blue sky.

Water Tower

Magnificent Mile

– my journey home from work this week has included a couple of evening diversions along the shopping district of Michigan Avenue. The canyon of skyscrapers includes the tapering behemoth of John Hancock and the warm stone spire of the Water Tower.

Commute Scoot

– though it’s hot in slow traffic, it’s been great to be hauling down lake Shore Drive to work this week. A bit of snarled traffic near Grant Park where Lollapalooza is being set up.

Upper Wacker

Along the River

– two-wheel commuting today. A minor detour around The Loop following the River to Michigan Avenue. A canyon of architecture.

Focal Point

Garden Ornament

– planning on some summer commuting mikes so I need to park the Tiger in our small yard. Locked to the house wall and covered.

Greenery

Under the Hawthorn

– a quick pit stop in a Forest Preserve. The woodland had been cleared of its understory so good filtered views through the dappled shade from the canopy was enjoyed.

Leafy Lane

Tunnel of Trees

– temperatures in the 70’s and a light breeze off the Lake gave us a splendid ride through Lake County. A couple of unexplored roads that led back to bucolic farm scenes gave us a delightful few miles of riding.

White barn and verdant pasture.

It’s always so special when you find these compositions through leafy frames to elegant farmsteads.

Enjoying the road to ourselves
