Midweek Musings – September is the cusp of seasonal change when the balance of the summer heat begins to give way to a cooler autumn. Green abounds, hints of golden or red leaves, clear skies of fresh air. Enjoying rides during this time with a good running Triumph feeds the soul like an elixir.

Don Camillo – the post WW2 Roman Catholic priest in the small fictional Italian village on the River Po. His japes and escapades with the left-wing mayor Peppone a a thing of legend written by Giovannini Guareschi who was born on this day in 1908. The pair seen scooting about in a Moto Guzzi combination in true comradeship.
This movie poster has them dealing with a biker gang who comes into town. I loved the stories growing up- simpler times after the tumult of a war.

Let’s try and wrap the week up with something positive. After the tragic events in Belgium we should celebrate a Brussels icon. Hergé’s boy wonder Tintin. He knows how to chase culprits with speed and determination. Which is how the European authorities are conducting their efforts to find out who was behind the attacks. His ride is a Terrot motorcycle built in Dijon France.

“First of all, Michael is very quiet, but he’s a visual man. And he and I would look at the same thing. We wouldn’t even have to talk to each other, just look. Incredible pleasure would build up. Secondly, we camped and so we were outdoors all the time. Riding across the country on a motorcycle in ’61-’62 is a great adventure. Cops would pull up to us, and they’d say, “Hey, where are you going? What can we do for you?” People gave us food. People told us stories.” Marcia Tucker
Here’s a timeless image of a young adventure prone gal in the early sixties raveling the country as an impoverished art student. The bike is a BSA A10. She went on to become a renowned art critic & historian, curator, and of course motorcyclist.
Her Biography.

A two word noun that has been declared to be the most beautiful in the English language. Its phonoaesthetic quality was heralded by Edgar Allen Poe as a word whose sound (euphonic) is more sonorous than its meaning.
Well I need to get my act together soon as the Cub nears assembly completion and needs to escape from its confines through a metaphorical Cellar Door…

Today is Philip K. Dicks birthday. Born 1928 -died 1982. Actually born here in Chicago.
A prolific writer of novels and short stories he invented an alternate reality of parallel worlds. Always thought provoking, always surprising. I can imagine his cats curled up next to his typewriter as he turns his enigmatic mind into prose.

With my Geordie Biker blog postings linked to Facebook then the word use count obviously picks up the Moto-oriented writings. Surprise surprise that Triumph is #1…

Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
J.R.R. Tolkien

A mosaic of images to evoke the journey travelled yesterday.
