Cooler by the Lake

When the weather forecast says we might see upper eighties and high humidity I don’t head inland. Instead by keeping within a mile or two of Lake Michigan its cooling effect can refresh perfect leafy roads. Forest Way: the few mile winding lane along the lagoons is such a short respite from the world of nearby busy Saturday traffic.

A refreshing Coke (Mexican style in a glass bottle made from cane sugar) whetted my whistle at a quick stop at Bob’s Pantry opposite the Ravinia Metra Station. All in all a nice wee jaunt…

  1. Sounds so nice..
You may not believe it, not having had a proper summer since 1976.. the sun has been out most of the past week, to the point of being sweltering.! After all we’ve put up with these past many years.. this is soooo lovely.
Fact is.. I can’t cope [as a practising ginger.!] when it gets much past 80ish.. time for a lay-down.
However, madam and I are back from Scotland as of Friday evening. The Game Fair was truly excellent..something for every country lover. My first time at this revised event.. but I’ll do my best to make it an annual event for us each year. A lovely park-land setting at Scone Palace and glorious weather.. makes one wonder where we are really.. “are we at home dear.?”
A swift run down home, a glorious drive on good motorways.. late back tho” at 9:45pm.
And up early on Saturday am for our local show.. at Skelton near Penrith.. in the most lovely setting.. aristo’ parkland that his most wonderfulness lets the locals have for the show. And he is a nice man too..
If the weather is fair it is just a joy to go.. I always feel.. [deep breath] Hmmmmmmmmmmm..isn’t this grand.! And it is and yesterday, it was over 80 and the sun shone all day with the softest breeze to just cool us and no more. But no Lake.. can’t have everything.
So today, glorious again.. all the washing done and outside drying well.. mega.
And inside the tv is on BBC1 for the mens’ Wimbledon final.. the thing that all the UK longs for is looking do-able. Murray is 2 sets up.
Oh please God.. 80 years is such a long time to wait for a really good man to give your true people a victory.
Let’s not count our chickens tho’.. just wait and see. If he [Murray] wins, I’ll be overjoyed.
    Speak soon.
    Bill

    • A young at heart 42! I have heard about the very unseadonable hot weather. And Scotland with out rain… Perth is a nice locale to base from, good coastline, nice Bens and glens. I’m jealous! Let’s see if Andy can do it. A Dunblane boy I hear.
