Over the Top

Hump Day – well, this is one way to overcome midweek. Take a vintage Montessori Cota 349 trials and loup over the roof of a classic Volkswagen Beetle. The Pfederstall, or horse stable, restaurant Is a suitable backdrop of motorcyclists rendezvous for such antics.

Pi

π – defined as the ratio of a circles circumference to its diameter, this mathematical constant is ubiquitous to the universe. It also has meaning for the motorcycle from Wheels to discs, gears and cogs, dials & caps, and lights.

2-2-2

Trainspotting – a bunch of friends in the mid sixties enjoy each other’s company whilst chasing steam around the country. Based in Weymouth they were present at the waning of coal powered transport. Left to right: Norman Gillespie, Denis Turner and Keith Robertson. The large bottles of Guinness must be some story… the photo us Denis’s who worked on the railways in the sixties.

Triumph Akaw!

Surfer – Sunday evening with a gnarly week ahead; we need epic swell to get on the sticks deck and look for hollows and charge the tubes and ride the green room.

Dog

Tess – certainly a story of mans best friend; this friendly pet is the dearest to her owner, Marko Mudryk in Wisconsin. So much so that he’s selling off items to pay for insulin shot for her diabetic condition. Even selling his Triumph… a good friend of his set up a fundraising page to assist. GoFundMe

She looks such a lovely hound.

John Surtees

A Knight in anyone’s books – today saw the passing of one of Motorsport s greats. John Surtees CBE at the age of 83. Here in a lighter moment with the great Jim Clark. He won four GP championships on two Wheels and one Formula 1 championship on four for MV Augusta and Scuderia Ferrari respectively. Sir John posthumously? Absolutely!

The Rights of Women

International Women’s Day

WHILE Europe’s eye is fix’d on mighty things,The fate of Empires and the fall of Kings;

While quacks of State must each produce his plan,

And even children lisp the Rights of Man;

Amid this mighty fuss just let me mention,

The Rights of Woman merit some attention.

First, in the Sexes’ intermix’d connection,

One sacred Right of Woman is, protection.—

The tender flower that lifts its head, elate,

Helpless, must fall before the blasts of Fate,

Sunk on the earth, defac’d its lovely form,

Unless your shelter ward th’ impending storm.

Our second Right—but needless here is caution,

To keep that right inviolate’s the fashion;

Each man of sense has it so full before him,

He’d die before he’d wrong it—’tis decorum.

There was, indeed, in far less polish’d days,

A time, when rough rude man had naughty ways,

Would swagger, swear, get drunk, kick up a riot,

Nay even thus invade a Lady’s quiet.
Now, thank our stars! those Gothic times are fled;

Now, well-bred men—and you are all well-bred—

Most justly think (and we are much the gainers)

Such conduct neither spirit, wit, nor manners.
For Right the third, our last, our best, our dearest,

That right to fluttering female hearts the nearest;

Which even the Rights of Kings, in low prostration,

Most humbly own—’tis dear, dear admiration!

In that blest sphere alone we live and move;

There taste that life of life—immortal love.

Smiles, glances, sighs, tears, fits, flirtations, airs;

‘Gainst such an host what flinty savage dares,

When awful Beauty joins with all her charms

Who is so rash as rise in rebel arms?
But truce with kings, and truce with constitutions,

With bloody armaments and revolutions;

Let Majesty your first attention summon,

Ah! ça ira! THE MAJESTY OF WOMAN!

Interstellar

Hamilton – This is a timepiece : Khaki Automatic with black face, cream numerals, fully one to twelve hours, minute and second ticks with fives and a timeless (excuse the pun) font. Stainless body, black leather strap. Perfection. This is Murphy’s watch from the movie Interstellar, with time being a major part of the film, director Chris Nolan wanted the watch to play a pivotal role. This model is not available for retail… drat!

Ten past Ten

Quelle heure est il? The many faces of Triumph timepieces. One through teelve and zero to sixty; timers and calendars; velocity and minute bezels; leather strap or stainless bracelet. With smartphones watches are becoming defunct, but I’ve gone back to wearing one for ease of timekeeping. The Chronograph lives on!

The Cursed Earth

Back to Basics – we recently had the opportunity to see a performance by the undoubtable Billy Bragg. Oh he of proletariat song and socialist chant. Folk punk poet with a rock beat. This photo of him in the early 80’s has him wearing a 2000ad cover t-shirt. Prog 61 to be exact, and my favorite, illustrating Judge Dredd exploding out of the page on his Lawmaster.

Rx

Lozenge- the prescription for escaping the hubbub of today’s breakneck pace and unrelenting demands is to get out on a motorcycle, find some less trafficked roads and open ‘er up. Three pills, each 650cc, take as often as possible.

Allay Cat – finally put the finishing touches to the Cub. Tank decals, oil bag sticker, few tuning tweaks to the cables and tidy-up of wires. Had a quick run around some local alleys to rattle through the gears. Fun scoot! Just took 4 years!
