Spy vs Spy – lip curling proletariat Billy Bragg looks the rocker part on a sweet Speed Twin. The cardigan wearing guys with their thumbs up is 80’s Hull band The Housemartins, Paul Heaton (R) and Stan Cullimore (L).

Wet Roads – tried to get a short ride in this morning but unforecast rains dampened procedings. So we had a coffee at Bob’s Pantry in Braeside. The new blacktop roads aren’t too goo in wet weather – not like the grippy UK roads which are constructed and surfaced for the more common damp conditions. Nevertheless a good chat over a cuppa is good too. Here Dean kicks over his Bonnie.

City of Brotherly Love – cool photo of a busy motorcycle workshop in the near north of Philadelphia. Yorick & Sons Moto is a full service repair and build garage. Located in the blue-collar hipster neighborhood of Fishtown. http://www.yorickandsons.com/

Hell’s Angel – we stopped in to an Irving Penn exhibition at the Frick Museum Pittsburgh. One of his series was capturing the late sixties counterculture, and in particular the Californian Biker gangs. This platinum palladium print from ’67 captures a surly Panhead chopper owner in an evocative portrait.
Rattus norvegicus
Brown Rat – the proud owner sits lazily by his conglomeration of odd and ends that create a unique truck and bike. Every item that added curious character was a found object. From the snap-on wrench door handle to repurposed tire tread rear fender. A 650 twin Yamaha was the donor Moto under its patina’d skin. #Motoblot #Ratbike

Bikes etc. – the annual gathering of the ‘alternate’ motorcycle scene on Fulton Street was enjoyed with plenty to look at. Here’s a taster in a four panel collage. The Kawasaki KZ was in more-than immaculate condition. A bobbed Triumph in ratty patina had a fun tank badge and leopard motif. A 1912 Indian with oily rag wipe down appearance. And a latter-day Royal Enfield looking the part for twisty secondary roads. More to come!

Amal – the engine is getting a new lease of life. I have acquired a pair of brand spanking new carburetors to invigorate fuel delivery making sure the motor has plenty of oomph through the rev range. These classic concentric carbs are nice clean castings, good materials, serviceable parts, anodized slides, and are practically a bolt-on and ride item. I’ve had to carry out a couple of slight adjustments for my bike but hopefully I can put the air cleaners back on tomorrow and connect the fuel tank.
Brother in Arms
Sultan of Swing – Dire Straits lead man and impresario guitarist Mark Knopfler knows how to bang out a catchy tune or two. But another aspect to his musician life is collecting classic motorcycles; here proudly leaning on a legendary HRD Vincent. That would be a perfect ride to take along the seafront between Cullercoats and Whitley Bay.
