Food Mart

Ed & Erv’s – just shuttered up in the last couple of years this local Chicago convenience store has a timeless mid-20th Century vibe going on. So when I saw this Harley Davidson standing lazily outside I had to get a photo. A hint of vintage filter to sharpen the shadows and an evocative scene is created.

Hoop Dreams

Wheels Shadow – another snap from yesterday’s ride. Atmospheric blur of speed along a leaf dappled road.

Green Sunlit Roads

Woodland Light – terrific weather today for a more than decent ride. Kept going up Old Green Bay Road into Wisconsin where some lovely back roads are found. The recent cool and wet weather has greened everything up to a verdant lushness. Cut grass smells hint an the coming heat of summer.

Kool

Aped Cub – Well; if you must. Forest green Tiger with hi-rise bars being hustled ’round some rustic park setting. Burgundy outfit, complete with stirrupped legs, add to the jolly nature of this period photograph. “Come in number five two seven, your time is up!”

Where two roads meet

Highway 41 & Route 21 – Mid ride was held at The Point roadside diner. Skillet plate of eggs, sausage links, hash browns and a couple of pancakes, all washed down with coffee. Mostly overcast with the odd patch of blue sky. Bikes running well for a fine Sunday afternoon trip.

Leap Week

Midweek Madness – Hump-Day always needs a healthy dose of throttle as well as a whiff of confidence to launch over that Wednesday rise. This bug-eyed lime green Triumph Speed Triple is the perfect vehicle to head skyward and land somewhere in the vicinity of 5.30pm Friday…

When the Bike comes in.

The Days Catch – An all washed up, seaweed covered, rusted, beach combers find. This old sea-dog of a Triumph Cub rests on a pebble beach after some marine journey. The engine, tank and seat must have been liberated by Poseidon, though the tires may have given some buoyancy ‘neath the waves.

Roadside Maintenance

There’s a’wys summat! When your machine is reaching half a century in age even a 100 mile jaunt can uncover a mechanical snafu. Here Dean finds that the small timing pin plug behind the cylinders decided to jump ship somewhere between Glencoe and Antioch. Upsetting pressure and spewing a fine mist of oil onto the frame he had to get a 1/2″ bolt from a Napa auto parts store to make a temporary fix.

Knowing your bike inside and out means these impromptu repairs just delay an otherwise smashing weekend ride…

Shoot!

Blow Up – another frame from yesterday’s photo-shoot. This time the photographer comes into focus. Like Michaelangelo Antonioni’s masterpiece from the sixties I cropped in closer to see if a murder had taken place…

Weekend Goals

Midweek Blues – wish I was out on the road taking the Bonnie for a spin. Busy work means I need to wait until the weekend to get some wind to blow the old cobwebs out.

Red Cross – A serious young medical sargent on his 1917 Triumph. Agile enough to zip along behind the lines ensuring critical supplies get to where they were critically needed.

One for the Vine

Sunny Sunday Outing – though the air was chill, beautiful clear blue skies, blooming crabapples & redbud lining the roads, and a diner stop in Zion halfway on the ride made up for the fresh lakefed breeze.

City Gent

Bowler Hat & Cane – how else are you going to scoot about like a gentleman on your Bonneville. Silk scarf ready to fly like a pilots pearly white neck warmer. Smart rider gets appreciative nods from other bikers.

Tuesday to Thursday

Chopper Wednesday – we haven’t had a long-fork special for a while, so to get us over hump day here’s a stretched wheelbase Triumph rumbling down the highway, sunward bound.
