Bengal Tiger on the Prowl – Bollywood actor Salman Khan sits with a marvelously restored Triumph Tiger. He had the bike restored for his father Salim Khan who owned such a model in the late fifties. It would be fun to ride an older motorcycle through rural India.

The Days Catch – An all washed up, seaweed covered, rusted, beach combers find. This old sea-dog of a Triumph Cub rests on a pebble beach after some marine journey. The engine, tank and seat must have been liberated by Poseidon, though the tires may have given some buoyancy ‘neath the waves.

Black Dog – Neptunes spear was the Trident; also the sharp stick used by Triumph to win a bevy of races in the late sixties… it’s also the possible next project for Geordie Biker Workshop. I saw this one at Morries Place as a suggestion from Ed Zender. Nice powerful three cylinder tool… a seed is sown!
“Trishula” is Sanskrit for trident and was the weapon of Shiva.

Sled – Glory Motor Works owner Justin Kell standing with a ’64 500 Triumph. Found in a dusty south California aircraft hangar it was determined to be one of Steve McQueen’s desert racers. There is talk of restoring it; I would hope they’d keep its aged patina and stop further corrosion, wipe the engine down with an oily rag, get the engine sorted to run like a champ, new Dunlop tires, and take it to the Mojave.

Allay Cat – finally put the finishing touches to the Cub. Tank decals, oil bag sticker, few tuning tweaks to the cables and tidy-up of wires. Had a quick run around some local alleys to rattle through the gears. Fun scoot! Just took 4 years!

A New Wave – what a gen of a motorcycle: this seriously upgraded Triumph Cub looks like it breezed off a designers screen and rolled off the assembly line. Big able tires for sure underfootedness, disc brake up front to screech the rubber to a stop. Good suspension, and brown leather upholstered saddle. Blinkers let other know where you’re going.
Ten out of Ten for this one!

Bug Cub – like some emerald carapaced bug, the wee trials bike was brought out into the chill February air. I took it around a parking lot to let the engine and gearbox ‘stretch their legs’.

NYR – New Year’s Resolutions: the time of year when you need to take stock and wistfully ponder on what the heck you got up to and wonder what bedevilment you can get up to in the ensuing year. Here’s mine: project; new bike; travel; go places with my lass.

Winter Projects – as the warm weather recedes into a distant memory now is the time to figure out the tasks to undertake on the bikes. Still some sorting of the Cub; cables, wiring, a timing cover seal, a little more carb fettling. The the Bonnie is getting a new front sprocket; two teeth up for a little more top speed, then fresh clutch plates for bite… some oil line work…. it never ends keeping these running!

Low Bars – I replaced the handlebars to a flatter profile Renthal motocross shape. Much better in looks and feels more steady. I’m not a fan of ‘sit-up-and-beg’ steering. The work table is making thing a treat to mess about with too! I also rode around the parking garage columns in left and right figure eights. Getting time on the saddle (or not when standing on the pegs!) in slow-mo.

Home Straight – I might have said that before but I believe we’re out of the tunnel and enjoying the scenery. New muffler with chicanery mounted piping allows a few runs up and down the alley. New front brake shoes, sorted a catching throttle cable and the riding feels more plated. Still a little honing but nothing too serious.

‘Gin & Tonic – now that we have power then all the loose ends can get sorted. Nuts and bolts need tightening, cables need restrained, decals adhered, and engine breaking-in.
