Sergeant Pepper

For the benefit of Mr Bike

A show held in a fortnight in Scotland’s Lanark.

The Triumph crowd will all be there , Norton owners, BSA’s what a lark.

A few Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha will compete with Hondas for the fair oh what a jumble.

In this way Mr B will challenge the world.

Call Agnes’s on the telephone

To assure you sellers have a home to sell your bike.

And of course this is year twenty four

for jumbles of the two wheeled sort for parts you’ll like.

Opposite the racecourse on the seventy three Mr B flies through heated hall and restaurant.

And at Lawries and Symington mart this gathering is held.

The gathering is on the floor
Through the agricultural center doors way out back

Bob McIntrye race will demonstrate,

That old bikes can circulate around a track.

Organized by the SCRMC limited
A splendid time is guaranteed in June

But Sunday the Seventh haggis and chips are topping the bill.

Ten Fifty in Three

Foggy and another biker nut enjoying the launch of the latest muscle from Triumph. This is the Speed Triple and is a bulldog of a bike. The other fella is globetrotter Charley Boorman.

Through the smoke a rider appears…

Foggy is seen here riding in style on one of the new Triumph at a launch event recently. Former superbike King and Ducati rider seeing him on British fare is a good sight. He won’t the reality show “I’m a celebrity GMOOH!” A couple of years back- probably psyching out the opponents with those intense eyes.

That silver Thruxton R is my favorite bike right now.

Home on Wheels

“But the place which you have selected for your camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions, and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: “Home is home, be it never so homely.” – Henry David Thoreau

Rivington Pike Free Festival

Back in ’77 summer was enjoyed at numerous gatherings of hippies and music enjoying earthy fun in the countryside of a bucolic England.

Bring your tent, tie dyes and bell bottoms. However carefree gathering can attract others looking for lawless shenanigans. The Hells Angels turn up on their chopped Triumph, BSA’s and Nortons along with pelt headdresses. Save the Planet! More hash fudge and ‘shrooms.

How! Di ye diy art de ye?

Powerful paintings of icons on Triumphs by John Froehlich. Slight abstraction of classic images depicting Steve McQueen as Hilts and Marlon Brando as Johhny.

Pazzo Moto Caricatura

Luca Ruggeri Comics

An Italian Moto artist creates biker art in a comic style with statement… A selection of British bikes are represented here:

Manx rocker with big cylinder Norton.

Cafe Commando in featherbed.

Vacationing on a sport bike.

The devil rides out.

Caraibi: Italian for Caribbean.

Got Glue?

As had been mentioned before when I was growing up I loved to build model kits. Aircraft, tanks, spaceships, the odd car; but I never got around to motorcycles. Well did I miss out! I could’ve had fun with kits such as this Revell treat. A 1/8 scale Triumph Tiger.

The full page advert for their particular lines is a period piece from the mid-sixties. Even Ed Roth hot rods are featured. “Wot is… Is.. Wot. ain’t…. Ain’t!!!”

The Great Bird

Another example Louise Jennison’s Windsor & Newton daubing. This time the stoic Triumph Thunderbird in pools of watercolor.

Cobbled setting for a real-life item. Granite sets rumble under a twins noisy texture.

Airbrushed accuracy on promotional artwork. Technically accurate as a contrast to the earlier brushwork.

Thirty Three

This hand painted leather jacket has it all: the Triumph classic logo banners the lumbar, Californian locale pasted across the shoulders, and a hefty race number daubed broadly upon the main area. Time worn and off white adds to the grittiness.

Eight ‘Elmets

A store display offering items for the distinguished cafe racer rider. Pudd’n bowls as well as open-face Davida’s. Pilot goggles and silk scarves as well as a badge buckled belt. The pins adorning the leather jackets lapel are a neat detail too.
The fair fronted latter day Thruxton is looking the part too. Alloy tank? Why certainly sir!

Bag

Gotta carry your stuff! Tote yer trash! Haul belongings. That’s where a decent bag comes in handy. A satchel-like messenger bag with leather straps and canvas body and nice stitched buckling. Strapped to your bike it’ll need to be made of tough stuff with crafted assembly.

A simple sac works too which can be crumpled into a pocket when not in use…

….or a heavier duffel: zipped opening to innards allowing just enough to be carried, a couple of pockets for odds and ends. Weekend trip?

Jump

This day in 1967 (New Years Eve) Evel Knievel made his famous jump over the fountain at Caesars Palave in Las Vegas. However as they say: the jumps is the easy part… Sticking the landing is the trick!

Bad Moon Risin’

In need of some idle motorcycle gazing today I stopped in at Moon Motorsports in Monticello MN. Big showroom with Triumph, Ducati, and BMW as well as some Honda, Yamaha, and the rare V-4 engined Motus.

The Hinckley offerings are all splendid looking, from the sporty Daytona, mile munching Tiger, the cool lookin’ Thunderbird and classically styled Bonnie’s; any would be welcome as my ride of choice…
