Rockers! Evocative photography of a ton-up boy taking off on his cafe’d ride. (The photo is actually a contemporary scene made to look period: the swing arm of the bike to the rear left has a hefty tire and matching swingarm)

He’s Spartacus! One of the legends from the golden age of movies, Kirk Douglas, died today at the grand age of 103. His memorable roles were always played with gusto and energy. My favorite film of his growing up was The Vikings.

Filming the Impossible | back in the day trying to capture the thrills of the road one had to mount considerable weighty cameras to yer bounce. Here’s Graham Hill and Steve McQueen loaded up with the old analogue contraptions that ran old school film stock. Now we have miniature lightweight high definition cameras to accomplish this. So I bought myself a new toy…

Born to be Wild | Keyboardist of Californian band Steppenwolf Goldie McJohn sits on a BSA Rocket 3 whilst American Recording Studio producer Richie Polodor looks on from his Jeep. Polodor was producer for Three Dog Night who had hits such as a #1 cover of Eric Burden’s Mama told me (not to come).

Fender | the music of the motorcycle. A Jaguar electric guitar hooned around on a Tiger.

Skydog | supremo guitarist Duane Allman picking away on his ’59 Cherry Sunburst Gibson Les Paul. He looks to be in another zone altogether. Cool t-shirt.

Hot Rodder July 1966 | a ‘toon clipping from a vintage magazine unearthed in Minnesota. If you try and drop a Chevy small block V-8 into a Mini Cooper you’d better think about the pilots cockpit.

Bradley | Celebrating his 56th birthday today here’s Mr Pitt looking cool on a GQ magazine shoot. Desert sled provides a purposeful SoCal patina’d prop.

Le Mans | Went to the flicks to see Ford vs Ferrari. Staring Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles. It tells the story behind the creation of the GT40 and its development and subsequent domination of the 24 hour race in the latter half of the sixties. Two Thumbs Up.

Mayhem | This is what can happen if you drive around with a cat on your head. It may startle, dug it’s claws into your scalp, causing you to careen across the road and the ongoing calamity spreads to all other roadway and path users. Remember: don’t drive around with a cat on your head, no matter how cool you might think it seems!

The Cooler King | Our man Guy Martin is to recreate the classic Finland scene from The Great Escape made famous by Steve McQueen. In blue torn down sweatshirt and khakis he’s to jump a barbed wire border fence on a green Triumph Scrambler. On Channel 4 December 8th.

F Stop | The Original celebrity photographer Terry O’Neill passed away yesterday. His portraits of the spotlight denizens from the sixties through to the eighties are considered iconic. Clockwise from upper left: Robert Redford, Julie Andrews, Steve McQueen and Mickey Rourke.

The Leather Boys | classic early sixties biker film depicting a fictionalization of the rocker lifestyle in the UK. Gritty kitchen sink drama.
