End of September

Wheels Roll – quick spin on early autumnal roads this afternoon. Just let the way lead me wherever on main highways, back lanes; suburbia and forest preserve.

Darwinian progressions

Eight Years Ago – I took the rebuilt Bonnie out for a spin along Lake Shore Drive. A happy broad grinned memory. Parked-up at the Adler Planetarium I snapped a photo with the Chicago skyline beyond. It sported Gulf colors, original wheels and brakes and upright bars and footpegs. Well, I had evolved from there. A larger British tank in Mango Tango orange; rear-sets and ace bars; alloy wheels with modern rubber tires; and a disc brake front end. Where will it go from here? Time will tell!

Bologna or Birmingham?

A Pair of Beauties – these were a couple of my favorite sightings yesterday: A ’59 Velocette MSS; and a 72-ish Ducati GT 750 Roundcase Bevel. Art for Arts sake in these engines.

On Show

Vintage Stuff – perfect weather and a super turnout for the second annual Evanston Motorcycle Classic. Over one hundred bikes on display, including my shabby owld gal, under a Blue September sky. Another couple of hundred newer machines parked-up too so plenty to like ok at. Everyone was in fine spirits for the outing and polished offerings looked superb.

Ma & Pa

Joan & Robin – with the folks visiting from blighty I had to show off the new Tiger. I took my mother ’round the block for a quick spin. She gave two thumbs up on the pillion perch.

Pilots Seat

Cockpit – flight ready is how the Tigers controls look to be. Perfect upright perch to view the world from. Wide bars offer superb control in a natural stance for my long arms. Easy to reach buttons, and clear instruments. The Garmin navigator completes highway needs ($15 on eBay!).

North Flight

Tony Tiger – it’s G-R-E-A-T! Fun ride up north with a regulation brunch at Emily’s in Zion. Le Corbeau behaved impeccably.

Drowned road trip

Wash Out- on our drive out of Chicago today for a weekend in Cleveland Ohio we encountered a flooded West Loop causing a 2 hour back up. We needed the Tiger with its long legs to splash through the deluge.

Kawasaki Kool

Big Zed – a couple of smashers at the weekend bike show. A 1975 KZ900, which was the Charles Atlas of its day, imbuing pure adrenaline inducing brute power. This one in immaculate condition with a glossy metallic ‘rootbeer’ and orange paint scheme. Also parked up was a new Z900 which takes its styling cues from the old venerable drag strip king. Retro! Retrah!

Old and New

First Outing – a short fifty mile trip to see the vintage motorcycle show at MCC in Villa Park. The Tiger performed admirably and was a joy to be on. So easy to move along the road on, allowing me to concentrate on the weekend traffic. Deans Triumph Bonnie was running well too. I’ll continue this week with the offerings on show at the event. Our BSA & Norton tee’s emphasize our solidarity with the other Brit Iron.

Circus corax

Le Corbeau – the Tiger came home today. After years (yes it can be counted as such) of deliberation and wishful considerations what I believe to be the perfect motorcycle for me was finally welcomed into the stable. With its beaky nose my wife gave it this posts eponymous nickname. The Raven. I think, and know, the blog is going to get a whole lot more interesting…

Under a Sunny Sky

Western Avenue – I snapped this photo on Saturday whilst driving along the long thoroughfare that runs north to south for 23 miles through Chicago. A happy couple on their bright mirror-finish chrome Harley’s, rumblin’ along with the slow weekend traffic.

Lunar cycle

From the Earth to the Moon – short jaunt up north to dust the cobwebs from the owld bikes. Coffee stop at the Full Moon diner on Route 41 where an impromptu gathering of motorcycles occur at weekend mornings. Nice T595 Daytona parked next to the Geordie-Bonnie, which, for a 20 year old bike still looks fresh in looks. This triple superbike was the true relaunch of the modern Triumph marque as the 20th Century came to a close.

Coffee was hot & fresh, eggs sunny side up and sausages tasty.

Tiger

Test Ride – went down to Johnny Scheff’s Motoworks and took this sweet machine out for a spin… let’s just say a deposit has been made…

Spring Scene

Fences – Another photo from the weekend ride. Sun sinking in the West across the expansive North Shore gardens; farm fields; and spring-fresh woodland. Lilac hedges waft heady scents in the cool dusk breeze.
