Black ‘Gin – after the ‘new’ Cub we saw yesterday here’s another approach. A well sorted trials with a plethora of goodies from J&M Enterprises. Mostly engine parts: 250cc piston with matching barrels and other lightweight components.
Bug Cub – like some emerald carapaced bug, the wee trials bike was brought out into the chill February air. I took it around a parking lot to let the engine and gearbox ‘stretch their legs’.
High Bar – the Bonnie has new ‘andles. I’ve installed braced enduro bars giving an upright, yet still forward, stance. Some fanagling of controls was needed, and I’ll have to lose the tachometer. Heck: we’re getting it set up like Daryl Dixons moto!
Verve- The aforementioned 90’s group frontman Richard Ashcroft has a freshly released album. One piece is supported by a cool video of this troubled troubadour alternately crooning and riding across a windswept British countryside. It’s a beautiful Triumph Cub in trials form that he scoots across meadow, through wood, and along lane on.
Urban Hymns by The Verve is quintessential 90’s music.
Goal Achieved – I set out to put together a vintage trials motorcycle over three years ago. Using examples such as this image as guidance and inspiration you can achieve your objective.
SSDT – our bloke Guy Martin took part in a pre65 course at the Scottish Six Day Trials on a typically damp April weekend earlier this year. He’s dabbing along on a nice Ariel 350 single. Boiler suit, mountain bike helmet and Dainese race boots complete the appearance.
Home Straight – I might have said that before but I believe we’re out of the tunnel and enjoying the scenery. New muffler with chicanery mounted piping allows a few runs up and down the alley. New front brake shoes, sorted a catching throttle cable and the riding feels more plated. Still a little honing but nothing too serious.
A new Mikuni carb was installed for smoother power delivery. Some cajoling to make the fitment work but after a few kicks and cable tweaks a nice bark came from the new trials silencer.
Milk Crate – what a splendid little BSA 441 Victor trials bike. Carefully selected components to enjoy the rugged way of rock and stream. I need to find a sturdier crate like this one, mine is sagging a bit…
The Moggy – Tiger Cub takes her first tentative, and loud, paces along a Chicago alley. Rough engine but the gearbox shifted smartly up and down a couple of gears, clutch action light. Who says we can’t start having fun with this bike?
The Cub – a high exhaust pipe routing is creating a bottleneck just under the oil tank. So some on-line investigating the various oil tank mounting lets me see how to get the engine oil feed and return pipes snugged behind a hot pipe. I think I may have a solution: mount the ‘oil bag’ higher with a tab extender allowing the lubricating gubbins to function.
