It’s reminiscent of a pint of Guinness; which just so happens to be appropriate as we’re flying to Dublin for the weekend. Then onward to Geordieland to see the folks.
Nippon Cafe – leathers, boots and a goggled lid look perfect on this stern owner of a Thruxton. The framing of this monochrome image is perfectly balanced with the overpass backdrop. A plum portrait.
Profile – right to left and the windblast in your hair. White landscape rushes along behind a black Thruxton.
Las Vegas – the roads were smooth and not too busy, bikes ran well, and the lunch stop in Antioch had a good selection of good diner cookin’! Dash of autumnal color on the trees under an aquamarine clear blue sky.
Blessed are the Rockers – on this day in 1916 the cartoonist known simply as Giles was born. His inked single panels were both full of detail yet graphically spare. Typically commenting on topical news items or daily English life the collection annuals became a record of the years events. This splendid piece shows the Ton-Up Club 59 having their Cafe racers blessed by the Reverend Bill Shergold. Also known as ‘Farv’ – cockney accented father, he owned the original of this particular strip.
NBT DGR FAB – plenty of vintage motorcycles out on the road last Sunday. These ones in particular piqued my interest. A pre-unit featherbed framed Triton (owned by organizer Larry Fletcher), a BSA C11 single , and a clean example of the great Triumph Trident. Like a one, two, three..
Donkey & Horse – “The story with the next one will be much more interesting. Built up as a road racer in 1973 with the best stuff available. Never finished and sat for 43 years. What was old is new – this would be a corker of a project. Take a newer chassis with eyesmarting brakes, supple suspension and other choice bits; drop in a tuned Triumph twin then twist ‘n’ go! Double takers all around. Your face would hurt from grinning!
They say you should stare at something yellow for 30 seconds every morning to start your day off on a positive note. Well here’s a modern Royal Enfield parked in downtown Chicago. Over easy I’d say.
Six Cylinders Three point Six liters- a bevy of Triumphs big parallel twins were spied at the show yesterday. Each 1200cc has its own particular character: from the bespoke Bobber, the sophisticated Bonneville and the speed fed Thruxton. I still think that solver grey faired Thruxton looks the best.
Air Force One – a sinking sun over the scrubby desert terrain lights up a low slung cafe slouched over by a leopard print legged lass.
By a Nose – Geordie gives approval to a café’d Triumph on one of our walks.
Two by Two – bunch of Moto lassies take to a warm dusky evening on their shiny bikes. A red hot Thruxton takes the lead. Weekend again: so more two-wheeled fun awaits.
Highway 41 & Route 21 – Mid ride was held at The Point roadside diner. Skillet plate of eggs, sausage links, hash browns and a couple of pancakes, all washed down with coffee. Mostly overcast with the odd patch of blue sky. Bikes running well for a fine Sunday afternoon trip.
Blood of Life – this gorgeous lively Norton Commando turned up on the ever fruitful interweb. It’s a smasher! Enough suitable upgrades to make it a very useable tool on today’s roads.
